George and Amal Clooney have given a rare glimpse inside life at their breathtaking Lake Como estate, and it appears the Hollywood couple know exactly how to throw a summer party.

The pair welcomed guests to their famous Italian retreat, Villa Oleandra, for an elegant evening of dinner, conversation and spectacular views, with astrologer Angela Pearl sharing a series of photographs from the occasion on Instagram.

“Such a special evening on Lake Como,” she wrote alongside the images. “Honoured to be a guest at George Clooney’s beautiful villa. I had the most wonderful time enjoying dinner with George and Amal. Good food, beautiful views, great company, interesting conversation – and a night I’ll never forget.”

The photographs certainly lived up to that description, offering a rare look at the couple’s private life at the historic property that has been George’s Italian sanctuary for more than two decades.

For the occasion, Amal looked effortlessly elegant in a floor-skimming black slip dress decorated with delicate floral embroidery and a statement yellow bow.

The 48-year-old human rights lawyer wore her long brunette hair loose over her shoulders and accessorised with strappy black heels and a woven red handbag.

George, 65, complemented his wife in a pale grey suit worn with an open-neck white shirt and cream loafers.

The couple looked relaxed as they posed together in the immaculate gardens, before another photograph captured Amal linking arms with her husband as they made their way through the grounds.

The images revealed plenty about the idyllic setting too. Guests gathered on the lawn outside the pale yellow villa, surrounded by towering hedges, palm trees and lush gardens, before sitting down to dinner.

Another photograph showed George looking relaxed in a crisp white shirt beside a beautifully laid outdoor dining area, complete with elegant table settings and striped parasols.

Villa Oleandra, which dates back to the 18th century, sits in the village of Laglio on Lake Como’s western shore and has become almost as famous as its Oscar-winning owner.

George purchased the property in the early 2000s and has spent summers there ever since. The sprawling estate reportedly boasts 25 rooms as well as a swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, a gym, cinema and extensive gardens.

Over the years, it has also played host to an extraordinary roll call of the couple’s famous friends, with Jennifer Aniston, Matt Damon, Barack and Michelle Obama, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex among those reported to have visited.

Yet for George, the villa has always represented something much more significant than a glamorous holiday home.

George Clooney says Lake Como ‘changed my life’

The Ocean’s Eleven star originally viewed buying in Italy as an investment, but quickly fell in love with the slower pace of life.

“Then I did the best thing I’ve ever done,” he once told Esquire. “I bought real estate in Italy.”

“Originally, I just bought it as an investment,” he explained. “Then I started spending time there, escaping. It changed my life,” he added.

George has spoken elsewhere about the sense of calm he found after arriving in Laglio, explaining that he had expected to spend only a few weeks there each year.

Instead, he discovered “how beautiful life was in Italy” and how living there helped him feel less pressured. The actor has also said he was seduced by the Italian attitude towards family, food and taking time to enjoy life.

“In America we have no idea how to eat, how to drink, we don’t know how to take time for ourselves,” he told Vanity Fair Italia in an interview conducted at Villa Oleandra, adding: “I like your sense of family.”

That ethos is reflected in the way he designed the home. George revealed that he furnished its rooms with antiques and created a large communal table where friends could gather to eat, adding that he liked his dinners at the villa to be held by candlelight. More than 20 years later, the latest photographs suggest very little has changed.

The home where George met Amal

Villa Oleandra also holds an incredibly romantic place in George and Amal’s history, because it is where the couple first met.

In the summer of 2013, George was at the villa when a mutual friend asked whether they could visit and bring another friend along.

That friend was Amal Alamuddin. “It’s the wildest thing,” George later recalled of their meeting, which remarkably took place without him even needing to leave his own home.

The pair began corresponding after Amal returned home, and their friendship soon developed into something more. They married in Venice in September 2014 and welcomed twins Ella and Alexander in 2017.

Amal later admitted that before meeting George at 35, she wasn’t convinced marriage or motherhood would necessarily happen for her.

“I always hoped there could be love that was overwhelming and didn’t require any weighing or decision-making,” she told Vogue.

“It wasn’t obvious that it was going to happen for me. And I wasn’t willing or excited about the idea of getting married or having a family in the absence of that.”
