Gloria Gaynor, born in Newark, New Jersey, on September 7, 1943, is an American singer, best known for her disco era hits, “I Will Survive” (1978), “Never Can Say Goodbye” (1974), “Let Me Know (I Have a Right)” (1979) and “I Am What I Am” (1984). In January 2020, Gloria won a Grammy Award for Best Roots Gospel Album for Testimony — her second Grammy, 40 years after she won her first for “I Will Survive.” Gloria was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Music by Dowling College on May 16, 2015.
