Princess Caroline of Monaco’s daughter Charlotte Casiraghi was respectful in an all-black ensemble, featuring a dramatic lace veil, as she attended the welcome ceremony for Pope Leo XIV’s visit to the principality.
The 39-year-old model and socialite wowed in a two-piece skirt suit that had intricate floral detailing running along the jacket’s bodice and chunky rope cording along its lapels.
Large silver buttons were done up to the jacket’s round neckline, and matching buttons lined the lower half of the model’s sleeves. She added a pair of dark black tights that poked out from beneath her pencil skirt.
She walked around in a pair of modest black sling-back kitten heels and carried her belongings in a padded Chanel purse with a long black strap that she clutched by her side.
Powerboat racer and Italian businessman Stefano Casiraghi’s daughter joined other members of the monarchy and donned a showstopping black lace veil for the monumental engagement.
The veil was loosely placed on top of her chestnut brown hair and hung down around her face. It dramatically blew in the wind, and the intricate patterns sewn into the lace were exposed as the material rippled.
A historic visit
Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Monaco is the first in nearly 500 years, making it a historic occasion for the country and its royal family. The last time a pope visited was in 1538.
The head of the Catholic Church travelled to Monaco in style, taking a helicopter from the Vatican and was welcomed by Prince Albert and Princess Charlene, who kickstarted his visit with a private meeting at the prince’s palace.
He was also welcomed by Princess Caroline and her daughter Charlotte and Charlotte’s brother Pierre Casiraghi during the lavish welcoming ceremony on 28 March.
The rest of the pope’s visit will include a meeting with Monaco’s wider Catholic community in the cathedral and an official Mass.
Who is Charlotte Casiraghi?
Charlotte is the child of Princess Caroline and her second husband, Stefano, and was born at Monaco’s Princess Grace Hospital.
Growing up, the model was shielded from the media by her mother, and she and her siblings did not receive royal titles in the hopes that they would be able to lead a more normal life.
Carving out a name for herself, away from her family’s legacy that includes a famous grandmother, Grace Kelly, she worked as an equestrian, model and journalist.
Charlotte married Lebanese-French film producer Dimitri Rassam in 2019, with whom she shares one son, Balthazar. She has a 5-year-old son, Raphael, from a previous relationship with comedian Gad Elmaleh.
