Gwen Stefani recently opened up about a deeply personal chapter in her motherhood journey: getting pregnant with her youngest son, Apollo, later in life. During a candid conversation on Hallow on March 5, the singer reflected on the emotional experience that led to welcoming her third child at age 44.
For Stefani, the journey wasn’t easy. After already becoming a mom to sons Kingston and Zuma with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, the singer still longed to grow her family. But at 43, she believed that dream might not come true.
“I was desperate,” the No Doubt singer recalled. “I really wanted to have another baby. I really did. And I couldn’t and I was old. And then my oldest boy, Kingston, comes up to me. He’s like, ‘Mommy, I just I really want you to have a baby.’ I said, ‘I’m sorry, your mommy’s too old to have a baby now.’”
A Child’s Prayer That Changed Everything
At the time, Kingston was just eight years old. But what happened next became a moment Stefani still describes as extraordinary. According to the singer, her son began praying for her every night.
Kingston—who was eight years old at the time—prayed on her behalf, she noted, “Like, ‘Please God, let my mom have a baby.’ And I was just sitting there going, ‘Wow, look at my little boy. He’s praying for me.’”
Stefani explained she never asked him to do it, and she hadn’t taught him to pray for that specifically. It simply came from him. “I think it was like four weeks later and I was pregnant with Apollo,” she explained, “who I had at 44-years-old, naturally—totally a full-on gift.”
Looking back on the moment today, the singer sees the timing as something far greater than coincidence. In her eyes, Apollo’s arrival was nothing short of a miracle.
Celebrating Apollo’s Special Birthday
The emotional story resurfaced shortly after Apollo celebrated his 12th birthday on February 28. The milestone prompted Stefani to reflect publicly on the joy her youngest son has brought into her life. Marking the occasion on Instagram, she shared a carousel of photos showing Apollo through the years—from baby snapshots to more recent images with friends.
Alongside the tribute, she wrote a heartfelt message: “I thank GOD for u everyday. love u sooo much.”
The post highlighted just how quickly time has passed, capturing moments from Apollo’s childhood as well as family memories that show the close bond between Stefani and her sons.
Family Life With Blake Shelton
Apollo’s birthday tribute also offered a glimpse into Stefani’s life today with her husband, country star Blake Shelton. The couple tied the knot in 2021 and have continued to blend their families while building a quiet life together away from Hollywood.
One memorable moment featured Apollo standing onstage with Shelton during a performance. Wearing protective headphones, the young boy stood nearby as Shelton played guitar, offering a sweet snapshot of their blended family dynamic.
Their home life in Oklahoma has also become a big part of their story.
Recently, Shelton shared a playful update about their life on the farm in an Instagram video posted March 4. The country singer revealed that he and Stefani are leaning further into rural living.
“This year, we decided we’re gonna do some actual, real professional gardening—farming-type stuff out here,” The Voice judge said. “Me and my wife, her name’s Gwen.” The video also included a humorous throwback photo of Stefani wearing braces, showing Shelton’s playful side when it comes to his wife.
Despite the teasing, Shelton has often been vocal about how much she means to him. Earlier this year, he shared a sweet Valentine’s Day message on X alongside a photo of himself kissing her on the cheek. “Happy Valentine’s Day @gwenstefani,” he wrote. “My favorite person.. I love you pretty girl!!!!!”
Why Gwen Stefani Still Calls Apollo’s Birth a Miracle
More than a decade later, Stefani continues to view Apollo’s birth as one of the most meaningful moments of her life. The experience not only expanded her family but also became a reminder of unexpected blessings and the power of hope.
For the singer, Kingston’s childhood prayer and the timing that followed remain unforgettable.
Today, as Apollo grows into his teenage years, Stefani’s gratitude for that moment hasn’t faded. In her eyes, his arrival was exactly what she once prayed for—even when she believed it might never happen.
