A viral video of Harry Daniels singing to John Cena has people cringing. It’s also sparked a discourse about consent and privacy when it comes to filming celebrities. The social media star who rose to fame from finding stars out in public and singing to them has millions of views, and there have been times when the celebs themselves were excited to get serenaded, but for Cena, that was not the case.

John had an incredible reaction to the off key serenade

In the clip, Cena seems to be sitting outside a cafe, wearing a ball cap, looking down at his phone when Daniels starts singing an out-of-tune version of Taylor Swift’s “invisible string.” Cena, annoyed, looks up at Daniels, then back at his phone before he stands up and says, “How about we start with a hello,” introducing himself.

After they meet, Cena asks, “Would you like to sing now?” and “for what purpose.”

After Daniels said he sings for “everybody,” Cena hilariously responded, “I’m not buying what you’re selling,” and “I’ll pass.” Daniels still posted the video, writing in the caption. “Ok, this one’s on me cuz i had no decorum my bad sorry John Cena.”

People were screaming in the comments, writing “Ahhhh… read the room, my friend.” “This was the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever seen. Holy shit” and ‘”Oooo this was hard to watch.” The top liked comment reads, “I don’t think he was rude, he was just like damn can you say hello first lol.”

Cena has been open in the past about the way feels about privacy and consent. In an interview with The Breakfast Club in 2025, he explained the pros and cons of balancing fame and his personal life saying, “I’ve also had the luxury of a lot of experience with that. And if you asked me that 10 years ago, my answer would be different. Starting out, trying to gain a following, you want to give as much as you can. And then you get that following, and you realize, well, in order to give, I’ve lost the ability to essentially have all the luxuries of anonymity. Lost privacy. That’s a little frustrating.”

Back in 2023, a viral video in 2023 showed a fan trying to get him to say his famous WWE catch phrase, “you can’t see me,” while he was out at lunch. “How about I enjoy some time with my friends?” he responded.

He’s had other run-ins with fans, in which he explained that he would participate if they asked for consent first. The incident comes during a time when fans and influencers are looking for the next viral video and can quickly record celebrities without their permission.

Celebrities like Chappell Roan have asked for boundaries, and others have taken matters into their own hands. Cole Sprouse, for example, turned it into a bit of a game, and when he notices someone about to take a sneaky snap, he takes a picture of them first. The Suite Life of Zack and Cody star has an entire Instagram page dedicated to what he calls “Camera Duels.”
