As his career continues to evolve, Harry Styles is quietly imagining a future that looks very different from the whirlwind years of stadium tours and global fame.
In a recent conversation with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, the 32-year-old singer opened up about reassessing his life, revealing that marriage, meaningful relationships, and eventually starting a family are now firmly on his mind.
The reflection comes at a time when the former One Direction star is also navigating a growing romance with actress Zoë Kravitz, whom he has been linked to since last summer.
After years of relentless touring, including his massive Love On Tour, which wrapped in 2023 after 169 shows, Styles decided to take a step back from the spotlight. The pause gave him something rare, and that was time to think.
“Having the time to stop and assess all of it and really look at my life from a bird’s eye view and go, ‘What do I actually want in my life?’” he said in the Apple Music interview. “I have all these things around me all the time. It’s hard to pull those things in without making space for them. So if I stop everything, then I get to decide what I want to bring back in.”
The singer explained that the constant motion of touring left little room for personal choices. “If you’re like touring all the time and you’re doing this all the time and all these things, there’s no space to really choose,” he explained. “I had a real honest conversation with myself about, ‘Okay, in five years, what do I want my life to look like? And then how do I make changes to aim at that?’”
Through that self-evaluation, Styles realized what truly matters to him. “I want to be fulfilled and I want to be in great relationships with people,” he said. “I want to have great friendships with people. I want a family. I want these things. It just allowed me to go like, ‘Okay, what do I have to do to create space to allow these things to happen? I can’t just expect them to just happen to me.’”
For the singer, building a life with the right partner is just as important as the dream itself. “The right person—that’s part of why you choose that person,” he said, “is because they hold you accountable to the person that they know you want to be. I think accepting flaws and stuff is like, yes, having understanding is wonderful, but you know that I want to be better than that. So, when you challenge me on something. It’s a gift to me, actually.”
How love and friendship inspired his new music:
The theme of relationships also finds its way into Styles’ upcoming album, particularly the track American Girls. The song was inspired by watching three of his closest friends find lasting love and get married.
“It’s like being truly vulnerable with someone, like sharing a life with someone like that,” Styles said. He added that witnessing those relationships unfold changed how he views commitment.
“I watched my three closest friends get married,” he explained. “And actually seeing them trust in something and risk something to find something truly fulfilling, in a way that isn’t as like shiny and on paper as exciting as like, you know, watching them get married.”
