Hayden Panettiere will be laid to rest surrounded by the people closest to her – but two people at the center of some of the most painful chapters of her life reportedly won’t be there.
The late actress’s family and friends are expected to gather Saturday, Sept. 19, for a private celebration of life at a church in Malibu.
Around 150 people are expected to attend, including family members, friends, former colleagues, and Hollywood figures, according to TMZ.
© GettyBut Lesley Vogel, Hayden’s mother, and her on-and-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson were reportedly not invited. Hickerson’s brother, Zach, who was also with Hayden when she was found unresponsive, was left off the guest list as well.
The Malibu location has a personal connection to Hayden. She loved the ocean and whales.
Her father, Skip Panettiere, who has had to say goodbye to both of his children, is expected to attend.

© MEGAHickerson and Hayden had a complicated, on-and-off relationship dating back to 2018. Their history included domestic violence incidents, and Hickerson pleaded no contest in 2021 to two felony counts involving injury to a spouse or girlfriend.
He was sentenced to jail time, probation, and domestic violence classes and was also subject to a five-year restraining order.
Despite their rocky past, Hickerson was with Hayden in South Carolina when she was found unresponsive on Aug. 16. His brother Zach was also there.

According to sources close to the brothers, they understand why they were not invited and aren’t fighting the decision. They reportedly hope the service is a beautiful celebration of Hayden’s life and legacy. TMZ also reports that Brian is struggling with her death.
The memorial news comes days after Brian and Zach were involved in a bar altercation in Greenville. Brian was detained but was not arrested, while Zach was arrested for disorderly conduct, per PEOPLE.
Hayden’s relationship with her mom was also complicated

In an interview with Good Morning America, Vogel said she had gone to stay with Hayden about a year before her death because she was worried about her daughter’s relationship with Hickerson.
According to Vogel, Hayden wanted out. “She knew that Brian was toxic,” Vogel said. “She knew she had to get him out of her life.”
Vogel said she stayed with Hayden for about six weeks. But eventually, she said, her daughter told her she planned to remain with Hickerson. “When I got the phone call from her saying, ‘I’m going to be with the person I love,’ I just lost it,” Vogel recalled.

She had previously pointed to the fact that he was with her when she died.
But the two had clashed over more than just Hickerson, including Vogel’s involvement in Hayden’s career and personal life.
Hayden had previously spoken about wanting her mother to step back from managing her and simply be her mom, while Vogel later disputed parts of Hayden’s account.
