The 2026 Masters has kicked off in Augusta, Georgia – but, fun fact, the competitors are yet to know how much prize money they may actually win. The Augusta National traditionally doesn’t announce the prize until after a 36-hole cut has been made, which can take up to two days.
Part of the reason that the organization can get away with this is that winning the Masters is about much more than the prize money. That seven-figure number is secondary to what comes with the title: the Green Jacket, a spot in the Champions locker room and the Champions Dinner, and, of course, your name in history.
How much will The Masters winner get?
In 2025, the total purse was $21 million, which was $6 million more than 2022 and a little less than $10 million more than in 2021 when it was $11.5 million.
The winner will take home just less than 20% of the total purse.

Rory McIlroy won the tournament in 2025 and claimed a $4.2 million prize pot from a $21 million overall purse.
In 2024 Scottie Scheffler took home a then-record-breaking $3.6 million with Jon Rahm claiming $3.24 million for his win in 2023.

The remainder of the players also receive cash prizes, and any professionals who did not qualify for the final 36 holes will receive $25,000.

The top paying men’s major championship is the U.S. Open with the USGA gave out $21.5 million in prize money during the 2025 championship at Oakmont.
The PGA Championship bumped its purse to $19 million while the Open Championship paid $17 million in 2025.
However, as of writing the four Majors are outpaced by the Players Championship, which paid out $25 million in March 2026.
How much did women win at the 2026 Masters?
There is no professional Women’s Masters tournament at Augusta National.
Minjee Lee won the 2025 Women’s PGA Championship earning a $1.8 million share, and Miyū Yamashita won the Women’s Open Championship, taking home $1,462,500 of the purse.
