Gisele Bündchen doesn’t just glow on the runway, she also radiates at home with her family. During her latest interview with Elle magazine, the supermodel opened up about her life as a mother of three, most recently after welcoming her new baby with husband Joaquim Valente.
“I feel how blessed I am that I get to be a mom. I think I was born for that. It is just joy for me, their smiles; everything makes my day. It’s very simple to make me happy; they just have to smile at me, and I’m like, ‘Oh, okay. It’s perfect,” she explained.
Even as a globe-trotting icon, Bündchen keeps motherhood at the center of her world. In her 2018 memoir, ‘Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life,’ she reflected candidly on the challenges of raising children while managing a high-profile career.
Today, she speaks with a serene confidence. “Kids are just the best,” she laughs, recalling the chaos of a typical Zoom meeting with her one-year-old daughter, Vivian, making surprise appearances to ask, “What am I going to have for dinner?”
Motherhood has also reshaped her philanthropic outlook. Bündchen’s environmental and social advocacy, ranging from founding the Luz Foundation in 2007 to joining the Earthshot Prize council, has taken on a personal dimension.
“Once I became a mom, I was like, ‘I need to help women and children,’” she explained. She also serves on the board of Lotus House, the largest women’s shelter in the U.S., which has helped over 15,000 women and children regain stability.
Even her approach to wellness has evolved alongside motherhood. Bündchen recounted her early modeling years, describing the toll of nonstop travel, late nights, and unhealthy habits.
“Until you get a punch. And then your body is not talking with you, it’s screaming at you. And you’re like, ‘Okay, I have to listen,’” she wrote. Now, she practices breathwork, yoga, and a disciplined diet, habits that allow her to fully embrace life with her children.
Despite stepping back from the runway, her last show being the 2016 Olympics Opening Ceremony in Rio, Bündchen has no regrets. “The Olympics were such a moment; it was like a spiritual experience for me… I felt very honored to be able to do that for my country. I don’t think anything is going to match that,” she said.
Instead, she channels her energy into her family, advocacy, and creative projects like Chanel’s new J12 watch campaign, which reflects her love of nature and the ocean. For the Brazilian icon, the lessons of motherhood are simple yet profound.
