2025 has been a year of welcoming new princesses: Inés of Sweden, Athena Mapelli Mozzi, Amina of Jordan, Bianca Casiraghi, and Kira Leonida of Russia. All are daughters of princes and have filled their palaces with happiness and joy. This Christmas will be the first for all five, and two of them don’t know they were born into family turmoil.

Athena, the second daughter of Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, was born early and prematurely on January 22. At birth, she weighed just two kilos. Her arrival had been expected for early spring, but she was born around two months ahead of schedule.

A month ago, the Princess herself spoke about how difficult it was to face a premature birth and the complete uncertainty of what lay ahead. “I think that very often, especially as mothers, we go through life feeling that we have to be perfect at everything,” she said at the start of her appearance on the Borne organization’s podcast, which is dedicated to supporting the needs of newborn babies. “But when you learn your baby will be born early, it can be very isolating,” she said. Despite the initial difficulties, little Athena is growing up in a home filled with love alongside her sister Sienna, born in 2021, and Wolfie, Edoardo’s son from before his marriage to the princess.

Amina of Jordan, Queen Rania’s second granddaughter

Almost a month later, with great excitement, Rania of Jordan announced that she had become a grandmother for the second time, welcoming a baby girl named Amina. She is the first daughter of Princess Iman and Venezuelan financier Jameel Alexander Thermiotis, who is of Greek descent. Amina is the second baby to join the Hashemite royal family, after little Iman, the daughter of Crown Prince Hussein and Rajwa, who turned one this past August.

The young Jordanian princesses have become the stars of King Abdullah and Queen Rania’s Christmas greeting, a family holiday card rich in symbolism that highlights the monarch and his wife as grandparents holding the next generation in their arms.

On February 7, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden welcomed their fourth daughter, Princess Ines, who was baptized in a solemn ceremony in the summer. This Christmas, as controversy swirls around her mother, who has been linked to Jeffrey Epstein, the Royal House has brought the baby into view at several official events that kick off the most cherished season of the year, including the presentation of fir trees by students from the School of Forest Engineering and the lighting of the Advent wreath candles.

Pierre Casiraghi paid tribute to Princess Caroline

Although she is not a princess, two months ago the third daughter of Pierre Casiraghi and Beatrice Borromeo was born, a girl named Bianca Carolina Marta. Her name carries two clear family tributes: to Princess Caroline of Monaco, the proud paternal grandmother, and to Marta Marzotto, a designer and unforgettable Italian fashion icon, who was also Beatrice’s grandmother. In the same year they celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary, Pierre and Beatrice became a family of five after the births of Stefano (2017) and Francesco (2018).

Kira Leonida of Russia, the youngest addition to the Romanov family

A little earlier, in the summer, Grand Duke George of Russia and his wife, Princess Victoria Romanovna, welcomed their second daughter, a girl they named Kira Leonida, making Alexander, born in October 2022, a big brother.
