Adria Arjona may be considered for one of the most iconic roles in the history of entertainment. As the head of DC Studios, James Gunn, prepares for the release of “Superman,” he’s been discussing the future of the DC Universe as a whole, and has shared his opinion on Arjona, one of the main actresses whose name has been linked with a new iteration of “Wonder Woman.”
In an interview with Extra, Gunn opened up about Arjona and whether or not she’d fit the part of Wonder Woman. “I follow Adria on Instagram, but everybody came out [and thought], ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman,’” she said.
“She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.”
It seems like he made the comments to clarify the situation and make it obvious that the character of Wonder Woman was still up in the air. Still, his appreciation for Arjona got many of her fans excited.
© WWD via Getty Images“She was in a movie that I made seven years ago,” said Gunn. “We’ve been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her.”
In the past, Gunn has discussed the future of Wonder Woman, sharing that a TV show and a movie are both in development, even if the process is slow. The film would focus on her character, while the series would explore Wonder Woman’s home, the island of Themyscira.
What about Gal Gadot?
© Gilbert FloresGal Gadot has played Wonder Woman over the past years, with her films finding success in the DC Universe. Still, her future with the studio is uncertain, considering that Gunn’s “Superman” represents a clean slate for the DCU and a chance to start over with new characters.
The replacement of Henry Cavill as Superman also suggests that this is a new universe in itself. If Gadot were to return to the franchise, Gunn would have to provide viewers with a satisfying explanation. For the time being, the Wonder Woman TV show is called “Paradise Lost” and is expected to premiere on HBO Max at some point in 2028.
