Eva Mendes has always been Ryan Gosling’s biggest cheerleader. From celebrating his awards to sharing rare social media posts in his honor, the retired actress makes no secret of her pride in her partner’s work, though she keeps their private life firmly under wraps.
Now, ahead of Gosling’s upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘Project Hail Mary,’ Mendes revealed in her signature playful style that there is one costar who’s made her a little jealous, and that is Rocky, the CGI character voiced by James Ortiz.
“His only costar I’ve ever been jealous of…Rocky,” Mendes joked in the comments of an Instagram post about the film, adding a winking emoji. “They spent wayyy too much time together. They even got each others rings. WTF!!?”
The comment, which highlights the intimate yet time-consuming nature of working with a digital co-star, comes just ahead of the film’s March 20, 2026 release. Mendes’ playful jab underscores how seriously Gosling immerses himself in his projects, even if it means bonding with a CGI character.
Mendes, 51, and Gosling, 45, have been together since 2013, and they rarely share details about their family life. The couple has two daughters, Esmeralda, 11, and Amada, 9, and Mendes has been open about stepping away from acting to focus on her children.
Yet despite this privacy, she often uses social media to shine a light on Gosling’s achievements, offering fans rare glimpses of their life together.
One such example came in April 2025, when Mendes posted a gallery celebrating Gosling’s campaign to get stunt performers recognized with their own Academy Award category.
“My man is the F best! Unfortunately, success is almost only measured by the box office,” she wrote. “So I’m extra proud of my man for turning his entire Fall Guy press tour into a campaign to get stunts recognized by the Oscars. And now after almost 100 years of stunt design not being acknowledged by the Academy, it’s officially a category!! This is a HUGE success! And an achievement that will last. Congratulations to the incredible stunt community!!”
She closed the post in playful fashion. “BTW, this is the last time I post a pic of my man and the total babe that is Emily Blunt. No más!” The couple’s love story began on the set of ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ in 2011.
Mendes has called the experience “the greatest experience I had making a film,” telling E! News in 2024 that meeting Gosling was transformative. “Ryan Gosling happened,” she told Women’s Health in 2019. “I mean, falling in love with him. Then it made sense for me to have…not kids, but his kids. It was very specific to him.”
For Gosling, the partnership has also been life-changing. During his 2017 Golden Globes acceptance speech for La La Land, he praised Mendes. “If she hadn’t taken all that on so I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today so, sweetheart, thank you.”
He went on to highlight her support raising their daughters, carrying their second pregnancy, and helping her brother battle cancer. Even more recently, Mendes and Gosling sparked speculation about a private vow renewal during a Montecito Christmas outing in 2025.
The couple, fresh from Gosling’s filming of ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ in London, was spotted shopping with their daughters, looking relaxed, joyful, and fully present. Fans noted how seamlessly they blended into the town’s low-key celebrity vibe and speculated that the outing marked more than just holiday shopping.
Even as Gosling continues to take on blockbuster roles and Mendes supports him from behind the scenes, the couple’s bond remains grounded.
Her lighthearted comment about Rocky may have drawn laughs, but it also reflects a deeper truth. Mendes celebrates Gosling’s achievements wholeheartedly while keeping their family life private, proving that love in Hollywood can survive without constant public display.
