Jack Black was the latest star to commandeer an episode of Saturday Night Live’s 51st season, and it was a big one!
The comedian and musician, 56, took charge of the April 4 show, also finally making his entry into the illustrious SNL five-timers club, the stars who’ve hosted the show five times (or more).
Read on for some of the highlights from his stint as the latest host, from the celebrity cameos to sketch highlights, musical performances, and who’s coming up on the NBC sketch show next…
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie actor kicked off his opening monologue (dressed in appropriate fiery Guy Fieri attire) celebrating his fifth time as a host, and was greeted into the honorable five-timers club, a spooky, spider-web riddled lounge.
Ushering him into the segment was Jonah Hill, and they were then joined by fellow five-timers Tina Fey, Melissa McCarthy and Candice Bergen. Other gags from the set included Candice joking about having a good marmalade-less time with Paddington Bear and Melissa chugging a can of John Mulaney’s beer. Classic stuff.
The musical guest for this episode was Jack White, who himself was performing on the show for the fifth time as a soloist (six if you include his one appearance as a member of The White Stripes back in 2002).
At the end of the opening monologue, the two Jacks came together to perform a rendition of “Seven Nation Army,” this time with lyrics about Black’s induction into the five-timers club instead.
The episode’s sketches included jabs at some of the week’s biggest political scandals (Kristi Noem’s husband Bryon Noem’s “bimbofication”), the arrest and DUI charge for Tiger Woods after his crash in Florida, and the arrival of the new Harry Potter series on HBO (with Kam Patterson playing Professor Snape).
As for the original segments, Melissa returned for a hilarious cameo in the “Airbnb Superhost” sketch about a “couple” getting too intrusive with their Airbnb guests, Jack’s take on sparta with “The 301 Spartans,” and a karate class with Marcello Hernandez in “Self-Defense.”
Jack White, 50, as the musical guest debuted two brand new singles on the SNL stage, his “Seven Nation Army” reworking not included, starting off with “Derecho Demonico.”
He then closed the night with its B-side, “G.O.D. and the Broken Ribs,” with the two-song single then released on streaming services and physical sale soon after. They’re his first original releases since his 2024 album No Name.
Colman Domingo will host Saturday Night Live on April 11. The actor, 56, has an impressive catalogue of content releasing soon, with his appearance coming the night before Euphoria’s long-awaited third season is released. He will also appear in the Michael Jackson biopic Jackson, as well as Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, all in the span of the next two months.
Brazilian superstar Anitta will be the show’s musical guest, less than a week before the release of her eighth studio album, Equilibrium (with “Pinterest” released as its lead single). Both she and Colman are making their SNL debuts.
