James Martin and his partner, Kim Johnson, made quite the impact at the TV Choice Awards earlier this week, where James picked up the gong for Best Food Show, as the personal trainer stepped out with her TV chef beau while sporting what appeared to be a diamond engagement ring.
Posing for photographs in a slinky black dress, Kim, 39, showed off her ring after reports stated that the couple got engaged over Christmas. The couple started dating after the Saturday Morning star split from his girlfriend of 12 years, Louise Davies, in 2023, and it seems Kim’s sparkler is the perfect symbol of her and James’ next chapter together.
To get a full lowdown of her ring, we’ve enlisted the help of Jessica Flinn-Allen, a jewellery designer with a degree in metalwork and jewellery and 15-plus years of experience in designing and creating fine jewellery, who has founded Jessica Flinn Fine Jewellery. What kind of ring did James Martin propose with?
Jessica tells us that the ring is a classic trilogy-style engagement ring with round brilliant-cut diamonds and looks to be set in platinum. “Trilogy rings traditionally represent the past, present and future for the couple, and are a timeless choice for an engagement ring,” she explains.
The jewellery designer also says that the style blends old and new. She tells us: “It is contemporary whilst still giving a nod to the vintage style trilogy rings that became popular in the Victorian age and continue to be one of the most popular styles.
“James’ choice of a trilogy engagement ring for Kim shows intention and thoughtfulness, and the classic, elegant style of the ring suits Kim perfectly.”
How big are the diamonds in Kim’s ring?
Jessica estimates the central diamond to be around 4.0-5.0cts, complemented by two 3.0-3.5ct diamonds on either side. With this in mind, she estimates the value to be in the region of £500,000.
What has James said about marriage?
Despite Kim putting her diamond ring on full display at the TV Choice Awards, James has previously suggested that he is sceptical about getting married.
“Marriage doesn’t interest me in the slightest, mainly because I’ve catered for so many weddings, really,” he told The Sunday People in 2019. “I admire people who do it, that’s fine, but I’m quite happy. I don’t need to spend 60 grand on a day, no, I’m more than happy, thanks.”
Meanwhile, Kim has been married before. She split from Arun Nayar, the businessman ex-husband of Elizabeth Hurley, in 2017, less than a year after getting married in July 2016. Mrs Martin-to-be is understood to have moved in with the chef in the Hampshire countryside in October 2025.
