Jenna Ortega knew that Mikey Madison was a star long before the world caught up with her. The actress is currently promoting her new film, “Death of a Unicorn,” and has discussed her friendship with Madison, who recently won her first Oscar at the age of 25 for the film “Anora.”
She joined a prestigious and select list of actors who’ve won the Oscar before the age of 30.
In a new interview, Ortega was asked about her friendship with Madison and the fact that she won her first Oscar. “It’s insane to think about,” she said to Entertainment Tonight.
“I had been telling everyone for weeks that she was going to win. I knew it from the moment that I met her that Mikey was just an absolutely beautiful, profound and… just an incredibly talented person.”
Ortega and Madison worked together in “Scream 5,” which served as a reboot of sorts for the franchise, with Ortega starring in one of the lead roles and Madison playing one of the film’s villains. “I was really excited that our characters were best friends,” said Ortega.
“More than anything it’s exciting to see good people win and she’s absolutely incredible. To see her getting her flowers is really a dream come true. I jumped, I screamed,” concluded Ortega with a laugh.
Madison beat Demi Moore in the best actress race
The best actress race at the Oscars was one of the most contested races. While there were five nominees, including Karla Sofia Gascon, Cynthia Erivo, and Fernanda Torres, the clear favorites were Madison and Moore, with the latter earning her first nomination for her work in “The Substance”.
Moore took some of the major awards of the race, including the Golden Globe, the SAG Award, and more, pitting her as perhaps the strongest contender. Ultimately, Madison took the award for the film “Anora,” which was also the night’s biggest winner.
