Jennifer Hudson‘s son is all grown up, and ready to share some of that spotlight with his mom.
The talk show host is a mom to son David Otunga Jr., 16, who she shares with ex-fiancé David Otunga, who she dated from 2007 to 2017.
Last week, the EGOT winner stepped out for the 8th Annual American Black Film Festival Honors in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and in tow was her towering son.
Jennifer took to Instagram some days later and shared photos of the event, including a snap of herself and David Jr.
In it, he appears towering over her, wearing a black suit paired with a black button-down shirt and accessorized with a diamond pavéed cuban link chain. Jennifer meanwhile wore a stunning sequin dress with a corseted top and rose-shaped draping at the hip.
“On Monday night, I was honored to receive the Renaissance Award at #ABFFHONORS2026!” Jennifer then wrote in her caption, adding: “Y’all it was such a beautiful night, I’m still processing it all! Thank you, @americanblackfilmfestival and the incredible @thesherylleeralph for such a touching tribute! My heart is so full.”
Fans were then quick to take to the comments section under the post and gush over it, with one writing: “Congratulations, @iamjhud! So well deserved, continued blessings!” as others followed suit with: “Absolutely incredible and so well deserved! Watching you be celebrated for your impact is powerful. Thank you for paving the way and inspiring us to walk boldly in our purpose,” and: “The older DJ gets, the more he looks like his momma.”
Jennifer and David also stepped out together earlier last week for the NBA All-Star Game, which Jennifer attends every year and has previously participated in.
Also sharing photos of the outing on Instagram, Jennifer then wrote: “We had a time at @nbaallstar 2026!!! The All-Star Game has become our annual birthday celebration for my big brother, who would be turning 47 today! Happy heavenly birthday, Jason. Love you always!”
18 years ago, on October 24, 2008, Jennifer’s brother Jason along with her mother Darnell Donerson were found shot to death in their family home in Chicago, Illinois. Her seven-year-old nephew Julian King was found dead days later in the back of a white 1994 Chevrolet Suburban that belonged to Jennifer’s mother.
Four years after the murder of her mother, brother and nephew, her former brother-in-law, William Balfour, was sentenced to three consecutive life terms in prison with no opportunity for parole, plus 120 years for aggravated kidnapping and home invasion for the crimes against the Hudson family.
It was revealed during his trial that the murders were motivated by his jealousy of his estranged wife Julia Hudson, Jennifer’s sister and Julian’s mom, who he had been married to since 2006. Julian was born out of her relationship with Gregory King.
