Jennifer Rubio, billionaire techie Stewart Butterfield split

They’re getting rid of baggage.

Away luggage co-founder Jennifer Rubio and billionaire tech entrepreneur Stewart Butterfield, the co-founder of Flickr and Slack, are splitting after six years of marriage.

The couple announced the news on Instagram Wednesday saying, “With deep love and respect for one another, we’ve made the decision to separate. Though we will no longer be married, we are still a family and what matters most to us remains the same. Our children will always come first, and we are committed to raising them in a loving environment with two active and present parents.”

Rubio and Butterfield tied the knot in 2020 and have two children together.

“We’re also partners in the life we’ve built together,” the statement continued. “Our families, friendships, and communities are deeply intertwined, and we are committed to nurturing those bonds. We remain dedicated to the arts, to philanthropy through the Rubio Butterfield Foundation, and to the shared businesses, investments, and causes that have long been important to us.”

A source in their circle tells us they are “shocked,” over the news and that the pair had just hosted friends on their boat.

“They seemed like the ‘It couple,’” says our source.

Another says it’s not so sudden.

“Jen and Stewart have privately been moving down this path for some time,” a source familiar with the situation tells Page Six. “They remain good friends and have hosted multiple trips with friends in that capacity this summer.” 

Rubio and Butterfield looked every bit the power couple in May when they walked the red carpet at the Met Gala after being named trustees of the museum, following a pledged $23 million to the institution for undergraduate and graduate internships in perpetuity.

That same month, Rubio chronicled their whirlwind social calendar on the international fashion and art scene and announced they had a new pet.

“Opening of the Venice Biennale, Dior show at LACMA, Dia Beacon benefit with Chanel, Louis Vuitton show at the Frick, Alaïa dinner at TEFAF … plus the Gucci show in Times Square, celebrating the Whitney, some peace and quiet at the Met, AND a new puppy if you make it all the way to the end,” Rubio captioned a glamour post in May that featured plenty of photos of Rubio.

In another post shared May 25, Rubio uploaded photos of them smiling and sitting courtside during the Knicks Finals.

In addition to racking up social cachet, the couple has amassed an eye-popping real estate portfolio reportedly worth at least $140 million.

Between 2021 and 2022, they snapped up five homes across three states, according to a 2023 article in the Wall Street Journal.

One of the properties is a $40 million, 20,000-acre New Mexico ranch, purchased from designer Tom Ford that served as the set of the films “Thor,” “All the Pretty Horses,” and  Kevin Costner’s 1985 Western, “Silverado,”

They also have places in Aspen, Colo., Southampton, NY, and New York City. They own the iconic Sky Bridge apartment in Tribeca, but put it on the market at the end of 2025.

They also own a large collection of blue-chip artists. An article in Air Mail in June — which compared the couple’s ubiquity to Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez — listed the pair’s art collection as including Cy Twombly, Ed Ruscha, Richard Prince, George Condo, and Kara Walker.
