Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson’s marriage came to an end earlier this year, but they have been a great example when it comes to coparenting. They spent Thanksgiving together as a family, and with Christmas around the corner, they’ll reunite once again. But her dad’s recent interview has fans wondering if a reconciliation could be in the future.
Joe Simpson made a rare appearance Thursday night at the Giving A Smile Foundation Gala in Beverly Hills, where TMZ asked how Jessica and Eric are doing after their divorce. “They are working through what they need to work. They are raising children—that’s the most important thing, you know—loving children, helping them grow,” he said.
The former couple are the parents of daughter Maxwell “Maxi” Drew, 13, son Ace Knute, 12, and daughter Birdie Mae, 6. “This is the most important time in their lives, and they’re both drilled into making that happen and bringing happiness to those things that mean the most,” Joe continued.
© ZUMA Press, Inc.When asked if he was around for Thanksgiving and if he’ll be there for Christmas, Joe simply said, “He’s always there.” And when pressed about if a reconciliation could be in the cards, he had a sly smile as he responded, “You never know what the future holds.”
Jessica and Eric’s separation came with cheating speculation and clues. In January, Jessica told TMZ, “Eric and I have been living separately, navigating a painful situation in our marriage. Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
Fans had also noticed tension on social media. In November 2024, Jessica posted a teaser for her comeback as “an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”
© GettyEarlier this year, Simpson opened up about Johnson’s “mistakes” and her decision not to have any resentment towards him. “I choose love because if I chose to be resentful or if I chose to let the pain of it overwhelm me, I would fail,” Simpson told Parade in August. “And so I had to choose love and loving people through their mistakes. If I’m going to love through my mistakes, I have to love others through their mistakes,” she continued.
Recently, the former couple has been spotted on a family trip to Carlsbad in April and cheering on Ashlee Simpson in Las Vegas in August.
