Jim Carrey’s recent public appearance in Paris sent waves across social media as people turned up the drama, calling him “unrecognizable.” Conspiracists even started making videos with the idea that he was cloned, and the theory has gone viral on X, formerly known as Twitter. While Carrey does appear to have gotten some kind of work done, possibly fillers or Botox, there is one person who isn’t thinking twice about it – Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of France’s César Awards.
Carrey rarely makes appearances, but his first one of 2026 came at the 51st edition of the César Awards, where he accepted the Honorary César Award entirely in French. Following the awards, Caulier told Variety his visit had been planned since the summer. “From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation,” he told the outlet.
Caulier shared an insight into how dedicated Carrey was, saying, “Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.”
As for Carrey’s new look, the general delegate reminded people it’s what’s on the inside that counts, “For me, it’s a non-issue. Just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.” His rep also confirmed it was him at the awards, telling multiple outlets, “Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.”
The conspiracies
Nonetheless, people are having a field day online with the theories. Which aren’t new. There’s been talk about him being “cloned” for years, with many saying it was because of a 2014 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, where he “exposed” the elite.
There’s also a theory that the cloning happened after the death of his former girlfriend, Cathriona White, who was found dead from a prescription drug overdose in a suspected suicide in 2015.
His attendance at the awards
Carrey attended the ceremony with 12 family members and friends, including his daughter Jane, 38, Jane’s teenage son Jackson, and his “companion” Min Ah, each of whom he mentioned in his speech during the event. “Thank you to my wonderful family, my daughter Jane, and my grandson Jackson. I love you now and forever. Thank you to my sublime companion, Min Ah,” he said in French, as his daughter, grandson, and girlfriend received ovations from the crowd.
He also honored his father, “I love you, Min Ah. And finally, thank you to the funniest man I have ever known: my father, Percy Joseph Carrey, who taught me the value of love, generosity, and laughter.”
Why Jim Carrey stepped away from Hollywood
Carrey has taken a step back from the industry and has not taken on new roles since ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3,’ released in 2024. In 2022, he told Access Hollywood. “If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s gonna be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road. But I’m taking a break.”
“I really like my quiet life, and I really like putting paint on canvas, and I really love my spiritual life, and I feel like – and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists – I have enough,” he added.
While some may argue Sonic the Hedgehog 3 fits the description of being “written in gold ink,” Carrey candidly admitted why he accepted the role. When the Associated Press reminded him about his quote at the London premiere, he laughed while saying, “That may have been a hyperbole.”
But then he shared the truth, “I came back to this universe ’cause, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch.” He then stuttered before admitting, “I bought a lot of stuff, and I need the money, frankly.”
Carrey is believed to be living a private life in Hawaii, and has turned down “three or four movies a year, sometimes for $5 or $6 million,’ because ‘the industry drained him,’ per LADBible.
Carrey made Forbes’ list of highest-paid actors in 2011, raking in a reported $20 million per movie at his peak, and has a reported net worth of $180M.
