Joey King made sure all eyes were on her as she stepped onto the red carpet for the European premiere of Practical Magic 2 in London on Wednesday evening.
The 27-year-old actress embraced the “naked dress” trend in a romantic butter yellow creation as she joined co-stars Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman and Maisie Williams at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on August 26.
Joey’s custom Miu Miu gown was crafted from almost entirely sheer fabric, revealing a matching butter yellow bra and briefs underneath. Delicate floral appliqués were scattered across the floor-length design, while its plunging neckline and barely-there spaghetti straps added to the ethereal feel.
She finished the look with coordinating Miu Miu pumps and wore her newly red hair in soft waves, with understated makeup allowing her striking dress to take centre stage.
The actress has been working with longtime stylist Jared Eng, who has helped transform the Practical Magic 2 press tour into something of a fashion moment.
Joey King’s daring style
Joey has never been afraid to experiment when it comes to fashion. Jared, who has worked with the actress since she was 13, previously told Vogue: “She’s always been a risk-taker and force to be reckoned with.”
He added that their long relationship means he knows “what she will be comfortable with, what she will never wear, and which direction I can gently push her in.”
More recently, Joey has described her own style as “low-key maximalist”, revealing that fashion has helped her become increasingly confident and experimental.
Speaking to Marie Claire earlier this year about her relationship with Miu Miu, she explained that she doesn’t believe there is one particular type of woman who can wear the Italian label, with its appeal instead coming down to confidence and attitude.
Her latest appearance certainly demonstrated that philosophy. The sheer yellow gown also marked a departure from the darker, witch-inspired looks Joey has been wearing throughout the promotional tour, including a series of lace and semi-sheer ensembles.
Joey King’s beauty secrets
While Joey looked flawless on Wednesday night, the actress has been refreshingly candid about the realities of her skin behind the scenes.
“My whole thing is to keep it simple and to always use a good SPF,” she previously told Forbes, declaring: “SPF is my skincare almighty.”
Her devotion to sunscreen began long before Hollywood makeup chairs. Joey told Vogue that her mother taught her and her sisters to wash their faces with water and apply sunscreen every morning before school, explaining: “Sunscreen is so important to me.”
The actress also revealed that she has extremely sensitive skin and can experience dermatitis flare-ups, meaning elaborate skincare treatments aren’t necessarily an option.
“I can count on one hand how many facials I’ve gotten in my life because of my weirdly-sensitive skin,” she said.
Earlier this year, Joey revealed that her approach to beauty has evolved as she has grown older, with the actress now far less concerned with following rigid rules about how she should look.
The Neutrogena ambassador told People that she has become more comfortable listening to what she feels like on any particular day, whether that means going without makeup or embracing a playful full-glam look.
Joey King’s healthy approach to life
That relaxed philosophy appears to extend beyond beauty. Rather than subscribing to a punishing Hollywood wellness regime, Joey has spoken about enjoying hiking and getting outdoors, while also being an enthusiastic foodie. She even made it a New Year’s resolution to try a different restaurant every month.
Cooking is another passion, although she admitted that her earliest efforts in the kitchen weren’t exactly successful.
“The first thing I tried to do was make octopus,” she told Allure. “It was so bad.”
But she persevered, explaining that she enjoys pushing herself outside her comfort zone in the kitchen. “I really love trying something that scares me a little bit,” she said.
