Joy Behar revealed that she had lost an incredible 25 lbs on her weight loss journey with the help of GLP-1 medications, which work to suppress appetite, regulate blood sugar and slow digestion. The 83-year-old shared insight into her health journey on Wednesday’s episode of The View, noting that her co-hosts had all used weight loss drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro too.
Savannah Chrisley spoke about the stigma surrounding GLP-1s on the panel, before admitting she had lost 40 lbs on the medication. “People are made to feel so much shame around doing [a GLP-1], and it isn’t. People do it for health-related reasons. I personally did it because I was prediabetic.”
“I did it because I was almost 300 pounds and I’m looking good now. We lost a ton of weight at this table,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg chimed in. “I lost 25 [lbs],” said Joy. “We all did it!” Despite her admission, she did not detail which brand of medication she had used.
Their co-star, Sunny Hostin, has also admitted to using Mounjaro in the past to lose 40 lbs. While Joy did not elaborate on her weight loss journey, she previously defended talk show star Kelly Clarkson for speaking up about her experience with GLP-1s.
The singer told Whoopi on The Kelly Clarkson Show that her doctor suggested she take the weight loss drug as she had thyroid issues and her bloodwork had gotten “so bad”.
“Diets do not work,” Joy said on a 2024 episode of The View while addressing Kelly’s comments. “I’ve been on diets, up and down, up and down. You lose it, then you gain it back.”
“Nobody wants to be fat except a sumo wrestler,” she added. “It’s uncomfortable, your clothes don’t fit, everybody wants to lose weight.” Several A-listers have shared their experience with GLP-1 medications in recent years, including Oprah Winfrey, Amy Schumer, Rebel Wilson, Sharon Osbourne, James Corden, and Rosie O’Donnell.
Joy has always been open about her appearance, with the comedienne sharing insight into the cosmetic surgery procedures she had undergone. “People think I had a facelift. I did not have a facelift,” the Emmy winner told People.
“I happen to have good skin. I inherited that from my mother. I don’t really have a lot of wrinkles. And I’m lucky that I have a lot of hair. I do have a lot of hair; I never lost it.”
“I have one friend who got a facelift when she was 30, and she wanted to be prettier. I never heard of such a thing at the time. But remember the work in the ’80s, you looked so strange. But I knew a lot of women who were addicted to plastic surgery,” she explained.
Joy added that she had received filler to enhance her natural features. “The filler is actually way better than the Botox. The Botox, I don’t know what that does. It freezes lines on your forehead, I guess,” she said.
