The production duo behind a copyright lawsuit targeting Colombian superstar Karol G has formally withdrawn their case and apologized publicly for filing it.
Jack Hernández (Ocean Vibes) and Dick Alfredo Caballero Rodríguez (Alfr3d Beats) initially accused Karol G and the co-writers of her 2023 hit single “Gatúbela” of borrowing elements from their earlier track, “Punto G.”
The legal dispute, filed in a federal court in Miami in 2025, sparked widespread discussion in the music industry about intellectual property boundaries in urban music.
But the duo has now reversed course. According to documents, the producers acknowledged that evidence, including studio session files, demonstrated that Karol G’s producer, DJ Maff, had created and recorded the beat for “Gatúbela” two weeks before “Punto G” was released.
In an official court filing, the producers wrote, “In light of this evidence, we have decided to dismiss the lawsuit and offer our sincerest apologies to Karol G and DJ Maff for our erroneous claims and public accusations. We were wrong. We wish the best to Karol G, DJ Maff, and the other defendants.
The producers plan to publish their apology in both English and Spanish across YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook, signaling a rare and transparent resolution in copyright litigation, where cases often end in confidential settlements or extended court battles.
The lawsuit had surfaced during a pivotal moment in Karol G’s career. Her album Mañana Será Bonito (2023) not only broke streaming records but also solidified her status as a global Latin music icon. The album reached number one on the Billboard 200, making her the first female artist to top the chart with a fully Spanish-language album.
It also earned the Latin Grammy for Album of the Year, with singles like “Gatúbela” becoming fan favorites across digital platforms and Latin music charts.
Despite the legal dispute, Karol G’s rise remained uninterrupted, though the controversy sparked conversations about originality and creative practices in reggaeton and urban music.
With the lawsuit now dismissed, the artist can fully move forward with her career, while the music industry observes this case as a notable precedent for copyright conflicts.
The latest news comes shortly after Karol G’s birthday celebrations, where she enjoyed quality time with her family and close friends. Among the highlights was a heartfelt tribute from Sofia Vergara, who shared a touching message celebrating the singer’s talent and journey, making the occasion even more memorable for the Colombian star.
