Kate Beckinsale is opening up about PTSD. In some videos shared on her Instagram, Beckinsale said that people who suffer from PTSD deserve recognition.
Beckinsale addressed her phone’s camera from bed, wearing a white T-shirt and a matching headband. “A lot of those people become incredibly good at masking it,” she said. “And it’s sad because they become so good that they get no grace whatsoever.”
She noted that PTSD is an invisible disease. “Anything — smells, sounds, thoughts, feelings — can trigger them into a place that is actually like hell,” she continued.
“It really is true that when you haven’t walked a mile in someone’s shoes — however fancy you think the shoes are — you have absolutely no idea what they might be carrying, masking, dealing with day and night,” she concluded.

The past couple of years have been challenging for Kate Beckinsale. The actress has opened up about the loss of her mother and stepfather. In 2024, she lost her stepfather, the TV director Roy Battersby. The following year, she lost her mother.
In 2025, she posted a tribute for her mother, Judy Loe, revealing that losing her had been her greatest fear ever since losing her father when she was five years old. “Jude was the compass of my life, the love of my life, my dearest friend. The vastness and huge heart of this tiny woman has touched so many people who love her dearly,” she wrote.

Last year, she addressed the public’s comments on her weight, revealing that her grief has been one of the reasons why it has fluctuated.
“You take a break from Instagram for several months following the death of your mother, delete all of your posts and explain in some considerable detail about what you may have lost weight including the fact that weight loss is one of the very first physical signs of bereavement,” Beckinsale wrote. “I think people might be broken.”
