The Princess of Wales looked understatedly elegant on Thursday as she stepped out to visit Castle Hill Academy in New Addington, Croydon, to mark Children’s Mental Health Week 2026. Prince William‘s wife, 44, wowed in seasonal brown, but decided to break one of her own style mantras by ditching her chic heels.
Instead, the royal donned a pair of brown leather flats, embracing a preppy new look in her plain loafers. According to Kate Middleton Styled on Instagram, her loafers were the ‘Nya Penny Loafers’ by Boden. The business-style shoes were teamed with chocolate brown cigarette trousers and a structured blazer, the ‘Founder’ jacket by Petar Petrov, and a dusty blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up.

Looking as glossy as ever, her hair was styled in loose curls that cascaded down her back, and her makeup look featured a less-is-more warm brown eyeshadow and natural lip pairing. For her jewellery, Kate chose Kiki McDonough’s ‘Blue Topaz Drop Earrings’ and Auree Jewellery’s ‘Bali 9ct Gold Garnet January Birthstone Necklace’.
The Princess of Wales’ coat came in an unexpected orange hue
The royal’s outing in Croydon marked her third public engagement of the month, adding to her repertoire of February fashion. She kicked off the month with a trip to Wales, visiting Melin Tregwynt, a woollen mill, to celebrate Welsh textile manufacturers. For the occasion, she debuted a special coat made by the mill.

Kate paired her vintage coat with trousers by Victoria Beckham
The ‘Vintage Dillad Dwyryd Cymru Coat’ featured a subtle rose print and came in an unexpected tangerine hue. Orange is a colour Kate rarely wears, but the coat worked well when paired with Victoria Beckham’s olive green ‘Alina’ trousers.
The Princess of Wales also stopped off at Tŷ Hafan children’s hospice shop in Lampeter
“Orange is a mood-boosting shade that conveys warmth, energy, and spontaneity, qualities Kate may have wanted to project at today’s engagement,” Leanne Jones, a personal stylist specialising in colour analysis, told us shortly after Kate’s outing. “By choosing this hue, she brings a sense of optimism and approachability to her look, showing how thoughtful colour choices can communicate personality as well as style.”
Adding to the look, Kate also slipped on the ‘Josie’ chocolate brown suede pumps by Emmy London, which matched her trousers with the ‘Luna’ cashmere sweater in khaki by N.Peal London.
The Prince and Princess of Wales meet Archbishop Sarah Mullally, the Archbishop of Canterbury at Lambeth Palace
Meanwhile, the princess stepped out for a historic occasion on 5 February as she and William met with the Most Reverend Sarah Mullally at Lambeth Palace, the next Archbishop of Canterbury and the first female to hold the position, ahead of her Installation at Canterbury Cathedral on 25 March.
Here, Kate opted for two bespoke pieces – a chocolate brown Edeline Lee dress with long sleeves and a belted waist and a new Catherine Walker coat in a near-identical hue. Sticking with the monochrome feel, the brunette beauty donned the ‘Gianvito 105’ chocolate brown pumps by Gianvito Rossi and added a new necklace – the £1,555 ‘Gold Keeper’s Heart Trace Chain Necklace in 9ct Yellow Gold’ by Daniella Draper.
