The royal has mastered the art of walking with poise in heels, but for an important solo appearance in Southend-on-Sea on 24 September, she slipped into an unexpected pair of flats.
Kate resurfaced her most reliable shoes, a comfortable pair of loafers which she wore without socks, for her visit to the Forward Trust on Thursday to mark Addiction Awareness Week.
A modern look
The royal journeyed to Essex on Thursday to spotlight the social justice charity, which supports people as they recover from addiction and which she has been patron of since 2021.
For the poignant outing, Kate styled her loafers with a double-breasted jacquard blazer over a chocolate brown knit top and a pair of matching smart trousers which fell to her ankles.

The business-style look was worlds-apart from Kate’s glamorous appearance at the Digger premiere in London earlier in the week. For her night out on the town with Prince William on 22 September, Kate stunned in a purple floor-length Jenny Packham gown and the Queen Mother’s Amethyst Sautoir Necklace. She paired the formal look with Princess Diana’s Collingwood Pearl Drop earrings.
Kate’s unexpected ‘preppy’ shoe
The Princess of Wales occasionally swaps out her heels for flats while carrying out public duties – and she’s proof you don’t need a stiletto to look fashion forward.
The royal has been known to love a comfortable pair of loafers, which she looked ever so chic in for a work outing in February. Kate stepped out at Castle Hill Academy in New Addington earlier in the year, where she was speaking to students to mark the beginning of Children’s Mental Health Week 2026.
The Princess nailed the preppy look in a timeless Petar Petrov jacket and sky blue WNU shirt, which she tucked into a pair of belted chocolate brown cigarette trousers. For the final touch, she wore the Boden Nya Penny loafers, which are the perfect business-style accessory for an elevated casual look without sacrificing comfort.
