The BAFTA Film Awards 2026 takes place on Sunday 22 February at the Royal Festival Hall and is one of the most glittering events in the film calendar. It celebrates and recognises the crème de la crème of this year’s best movies.
The Prince and Princess of Wales don’t attend the ceremony every year, although they have memorably graced the red carpet five times, and on each occasion, Kate has worn an exquisitely designed outfit. It’s hard to pick a favourite, but as a fashion editor who has been writing about royal style for over eight years, I adored the chic ensemble she wore in 2019.
Kate stepped onto the red carpet alongside husband Prince William, looking perfectly prepared for their night at the star-studded ceremony. The mother-of-three wore a gloriously ethereal white gown by Alexander McQueen.
The one-shouldered white dress she chose featured pretty appliqué flower detail on the strap, a cinched-in waistline and an elegant, flowing skirt. The royal styled her outfit with a pair of diamond drop earrings that once belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. Beauty-wise, Kate kept her face looking as natural as possible, with delicate touches of makeup to highlight her pretty features, and her signature bouncy blow-dried mane was teased up into an elegant updo.
The royal appeared as a true fairytale vision with the pièce de résistance – a pair of Cinderella-style heels in a sparkly silver. Her £695 Jimmy Choo stilettos, known as the ‘Romy in Viola’, featured a glittery overlay, and versions of the pumps can still be purchased today.
Kate, the outfit repeater
The white Alexander McQueen dress was clearly a favourite of Kate’s, so much so that she re-wore it four years later to the same event. In 2023, Princess Kate opted for the same sumptuous, one-shoulder piece, which flowed elegantly as she walked down the red carpet alongside her husband.
The dress had actually been reworked for the occasion; this time, the asymmetrical neckline had been added to, with a flowing, almost cape-like sleeve.
Making the dress look brand new, Kate amped up her accessory choice; she added metallic botanical-inspired statement earrings from high street store Zara, and also sported a pair of black full-length gloves, which screamed Hollywood movie star vibes.
