Kathy Griffin stepped out in Los Angeles over the weekend, putting the results of her much-talked-about facelift on display during a low-key solo outing.
The 65-year-old comedian went makeup-free for the sunny stroll on Sunday, shielding her complexion beneath an oversized straw hat as she walked through the leafy neighborhood.
Kathy dressed casually for the outing in a white KCRW T-shirt tucked into loose-fitting burgundy pants, which she teamed with gray Nike sneakers and a crossbody bag.
Her trademark red hair was worn loose beneath her wide-brimmed hat, while a slick of coordinating lipstick added a touch of color to the otherwise pared-back look. The outing comes a year after Kathy underwent her third facelift, a procedure she has been remarkably candid about both undergoing and recovering from.
Kathy Griffin’s $218,000 facelift
Kathy enlisted Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Ben Talei for the extensive procedure, which reportedly cost $218,000. Far from attempting to keep her cosmetic surgery a secret, the My Life on the D-List star has spoken openly about exactly what she had done, even admitting that the recovery was far from easy. “It’s painful, and when people say it isn’t, they’re lying,” she told Entertainment Tonight in October 2025.
The comedian also joked that she had given her surgeon very specific instructions ahead of the operation. “They yanked my face. I said, ‘Give me a good yank,'” she recalled. “I said, ‘Doctor, I don’t want to see you in six months. Get in there and start pulling, yanking.'”
And when asked whether she was pleased with the finished result, Kathy didn’t hesitate. “I kind of am,” she admitted, adding with characteristic self-deprecation: “I know, I’m shallow.”
Kathy Griffin gets candid about cosmetic surgery
The comedian has never shied away from discussing the work she has had done and revealed that her latest transformation didn’t stop at her face. Kathy said she also underwent liposuction on her thighs before having some of the fat transferred to her face.
She has been particularly outspoken about celebrities who undergo cosmetic procedures but attribute their changing appearances to less invasive treatments. “I think it’s so funny, some of these folks, men and women, who obviously had work done – they say, ‘I went to a spa for a week,’ or they come up with some excuse,” she said.
Instead, Kathy has made her transformation part of the joke. “I have a new face, you can tell I look different than I did before,” she declared.
She even turned her latest facelift into inspiration for her comedy career, naming her current run of live shows New Face, New Tour. Kathy is due to return to the stage in Tacoma, Washington, on September 11.
Kathy Griffin declares herself ‘uncanceled’
The comedian’s latest chapter comes almost a decade after she found herself at the center of a career-threatening controversy over a 2017 photograph in which she posed with a prop resembling the severed head of Donald Trump.
The fallout was immediate, with Kathy losing jobs and endorsements and becoming the subject of widespread criticism. However, earlier this year she declared that she finally felt her career had emerged from the shadow of the scandal. “I think I’m uncanceled, which is a miracle to me because I didn’t think I would ever be uncanceled,” she told WUSF in February.
Kathy has since returned to touring and has continued to speak publicly about politics, comedy and the controversy that dramatically changed the course of her career.
