Katy Perry gushes over Justin Trudeau’s and says his support is ‘a different level’ than her exes

Katy Perry is making it clear that her relationship with Justin Trudeau feels different from anything she has experienced before.

After a summer of romantic getaways, beachside PDA and plenty of attention surrounding their relationship, Perry opened up about having Trudeau in her world during an interview with Entertainment Tonight at her screening of ‘Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live From Paris.’ 

While she didn’t directly criticize her exes, the way she described her current relationship made the comparison hard to miss. When asked what it is like to bring “the love of your life” into her world now, Perry opened up about how Trudeau has become a supportive presence in her career.

“Well, he’s just there to support,” Perry said. “I’ve had, you know, people come to my shows before, and partners support in their own way, but this is definitely a different level.”

She then brought up one of her own songs, “Like the Movies,” which she performed while Trudeau was watching from the audience.

The moment had an almost surreal quality for Perry because the song had been written so long ago, but it feels like it was somehow written about their relationship. “It is his favorite song,” she said. “And I was just like, I can’t believe I’m singing this. And I wrote this so long ago. And I think I wrote this about us.”

For Perry, the moment felt bigger than simply performing an old song for her boyfriend. “This is such a weird full circle mystical magical moment,” she said. “Like time doesn’t really exist in the other place, right? So it’s wild that it all came together in this one.”

The interviewer pointed out that Perry had previously described “Like the Movies” as a breakup song, but now it felt like a love song. The “Firework” singer immediately agreed that she now hears it completely differently.

“It totally is,” she said, adding,  “My world has stopped spinning.”

That “different level” comment is interesting considering Perry’s very public relationship history. Before Trudeau, Perry was married to disgraced comedian Russell Brand from 2010 until their divorce was finalized in 2012. 

Their marriage lasted just 14 months, with Perry later describing the relationship as a painful period in her life. 

She went on to date singer John Mayer before beginning her long relationship with Orlando Bloom. Perry and Bloom first got together in 2016, briefly split in 2017, reunited in 2018 and became engaged on Valentine’s Day 2019.

 They welcomed their daughter in 2020, but ultimately ended their relationship in 2025 after nearly a decade together. The former couple has remained focused on co-parenting Daisy.

What’s next for Perry and Trudeau?

That interview comes after the couple’s PDA filled time in Europe, and their lives are beginning to overlap in a much bigger way. Perry shares Daisy with Bloom, while Trudeau has three children with his ex-wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau. 

As both move forward from their previous relationships, they are reportedly figuring out what a blended family could look like while trying to create stability for their children.

After all, it’s not just Perry’s world that changed since the relationship.

The popstar life was reportedly not what Trudeau had in mind after he left office. An insider told Us Weekly that the former prime minister had originally envisioned a quieter chapter after leaving office in March 2025.

He purchased a home and thought he’d be returning to Montreal. However, his relationship with Perry has reshaped those plans, and he has “yet to settle into the home because of his relationship and the new world they live in.” “Everyone is rooting for them, but they need to settle down a bit, so that’s the plan,” they said.
