Calling all crime thriller fans! Prime Video has announced that season two of The Assassin is officially on the way, and we can’t wait for this one to air.
Starring Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore, the six-part crime thriller first landed on screens in July 2025 and told the story of Julie, a retired assassin whose estranged son arrives in Greece in search of answers about his father.
Created by award-winning duo Harry Williams and Jack Williams and produced by Two Brothers Pictures (The Tourist, Fleabag, Boat Story), the series scored a respectable 74% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
HELLO!’s resident thriller fan Carla Challis loved this one. She said: “The Assassin is gory, granted, and the high-energy fight scenes are cinema-worthy, but it’s the ‘menopausal James Bond’ angle that I am loving. It’s stylish, it’s witty and it’s ideal for those of us who mourned the end of Killing Eve and needed a similar show to fill that void. Not forgetting there’s plenty of comedic moments too, with brilliant one-liners as Keeley and Freddie spar as estranged mother and son.”

Picking up after the events of season one, the new instalment finds Edward and Julie estranged once again after returning from a “disastrous” trip to Northern Europe, where they suffered a mysterious falling out.
The synopsis continues: “Julie’s days as an assassin are far from behind her as she has slipped back to her old ways, whilst navigating something just as perilous… the dating scene.
“When Edward’s honeymoon doesn’t go quite as planned, he must reunite with Julie to take on Spain’s corrupt underworld, but can they survive the job and mend the rift that tore them apart?”
Keeley Hawes (Miss Austen, The Bodyguard) reprises her role as Julie, a former assassin, while Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor, Bates Motel) returns as her son, Edward.
What have the cast said about returning to The Assassin?
Speaking in a statement to Prime Video, Keeley said she couldn’t wait to step back into Julie’s world. “To reunite with Freddie and our extraordinary cast, and to dive deeper into Julie’s life and her complicated relationship with Edward, is a privilege,” she said. “There is so much more to uncover, and audiences are in for a treat!”
Meanwhile, Freddie added: “What fun it’ll be to get the gang back together – I can’t wait to be reunited with so many of the cast and crew! Harry and Jack have cooked up another spectacular adventure, and I feel so lucky to have the brilliant Keeley as a sparring partner once again.”
As for what viewers can expect for the new chapter, executive producers Daisy Mount and Alex Mercer teased: “The second season is full of twists, turns and thrilling unpredictability – just like the characters at the centre of it.”
