Kelly Ripa opened up about how she conceived her children with her husband, Mark Consuelos – and her candid revelation may come as a surprise to fans.
During a recent episode of LIVE with Kelly & Mark, the ABC stars debated whether they like going commando at night. “Should we wear underwear all the time?” asked Mark, as he read a question posed by a fan during the show. “Yes,” replied Kelly.
While one viewer shared that they believe it’s important to “air [everything] out,” Kelly couldn’t help but disagree with the audience. “No, no, I’m not airing anything out,” she said. “No, I don’t want to air it all out. I got pregnant at least twice that way.”
She continued: “I sleep in metal britches — metallic britches with a code. You have to scan your eye [to open them].”
Kelly and Mark tied the knot in 1996, when they eloped in Las Vegas a year after meeting on the set of the soap opera All My Children. They went on to welcome kids Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22 together.
Lola is currently pursuing a career in music in London and made her debut performance in the capital on December 12. HELLO! was in the audience, and saw the couple sneak into The Lower Third, a multi-space music and cocktail venue on Denmark Street in Soho, with both wearing newsboy caps.
Meanwhile, Joaquin, who is represented by CAA & Untitled, is set to portray the character Colby in Hulu’s upcoming pilot Foster Dade, adapted from Nash Jenkins’ novel Foster Dade Explores the Cosmos.
The couple’s eldest child, Michael currently lives in Brooklyn while working on the production side for Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York and The Real Housewives of New Jersey and has also worked as a production assistant on the sitcom The Goldbergs.
Kelly and Mark’s relationship
This isn’t the first time Kelly has spoken about getting intimate with her husband. During an appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast back in July 2025, Kelly shared that Mark wanted to be intimate “only in the morning”.
“I said to him, ‘Here’s the thing,'” she said. “‘There needs to be a yin and a yang here. It can’t always be your way. Cause it feels like 90 percent of the time it’s your way. And now that we work together every day, it’s gonna have to sometimes be my way, and my way’s at night only.'”
She continued: “The greatest thing about this job, this thing has like, almost repulsed him from morning time during the work week, which is like a miracle. May this show last until he suffers from erectile dysfunction. He’s in his mid-50s now. Shouldn’t that be happening now? I was promised!”
