Khloé Kardashian has always been one of the most candid members of the famous Kardashian family. The 40-year-old has been especially vulnerable in her podcast, Khloé in Wonderland, where she has talked to an array of guests from entertainment, and in her most recent episode, mental health.
The Good American founder sat down with Dr. Amen, CEO of the Amen Clinic, a psychiatrist and brain disorder specialist, to unpack brain health and trauma. In the episode released Thursday, they went over her brain scans and unpacked some of the emotional and physical trauma they were able to see in the results.
Koko went to Dr. Amen to talk about wanting a better memory, a past car accident, how she can “get stuck on things,” and past emotional trauma. From the scans, he was able to see a hole- not a physical hole – but significantly less blood flow and less activity. “I think this is trauma, physical trauma,” he told her.
She then began to recount a terrifying car accident she had when she was 16. “I had a car accident at 16, and I went through my windshield with my head, and my lower body was stuck under the steering wheel,” she recalled. “I was knocked out, and so I believe that’s definitely probably what that is,” Khloe said.
“Mild traumatic brain injury is a major cause of psychiatric problems, and nobody knows about it because nobody’s looking at the brain. That one accident can literally change the trajectory of someone’s life,” he explained.
“Trouble in the front and you hurt your opposite side temporal lobe which could be involved in mood and memory and anxiety and irritability,” he continued. “So likely what happened is your head hit the windshield probably the left side of your head, but the force went toward the right side of your skull, so it was probably this kind of impact to your brain.”
But it’s not the only injury Koko was able to recall. “I’m sure I’ve had a few head trauma situations,” she said with a laugh, “I think I even told you like I remember I slipped in a shower and like I cracked even some of my back teeth, and I hit my head I used to horseback ride I’ve fallen off horses a few times,” Kardashian said.
After all the injuries, Koko said she tries to avoid any more injuries. “I just don’t put myself in those positions anymore. I obviously still shower, but besides that, I try to wrap myself in bubble wrap,” she quipped.
The mother of two, who shares daughter True, 6, and son Tatum, 2, with Tristan Thompson, also vowed that her son would never play football to avoid any similar trauma.
