Khloe Kardashian “sheltered” Kylie and Kendall Jenner from the realities of her and Lamar Odom’s breakup. The 40-year-old star – who split from Lamar in 2013 and finalised their divorce in 2016 amid the former NBA player’s addiction struggles – has explained she didn’t give her sisters the full story about their breakup because Kylie, 27, and Kendall, 29, were so young and looked up to Lamar.
Speaking on ‘The Kardashians’, Khloe said: “I didn’t wanna ruin that for them and I just wanted to preserve as much of their innocence as I could.” During the reality show’s season six finale this week, Kylie and Kendall chatted to Khloe about her emotional renunion with Lamar earlier in the series.
Kendall said: “There’s so much that you kept from us — in a good way, not in a bad way, cause we were so young.” “It was so rated R, I don’t expect anything else. But it’s interesting because Kylie and I actually don’t know a lot of it.”
Her sister agreed, adding: “I feel like he really was a huge part of the family and like a big brother to me. We had a silly, funny relationship.”
© Michael TranKendall reflected on how Khloe was “shut off” during her and Lamar’s reunion, which was their first nine the nine years since the divorce.
She told Khloe: “It wasn’t that you were being blatantly mean or rude, it was just like, are you thinking people are gonna judge the way you handle it? Or is it that you’re more guarded? I don’t know.”
In a confessional, Kendall admitted she noticed “a coldness” in the way Khloe behaved with Lamar. She said: “I see such a hostility still and almost like a – there’s definitely a wall, definitely a coldness. I’m sure it’s anger. I’m sure there’s so many reasons as to why.”
Reflecting on the reunion herself, Khloe noted she was “really anxious without [her] even noticing it”. She explained: “The tardiness, the sweating, things that maybe are triggers for me. And I just was like, I have to get through this.”
