King Charles and Queen Camilla are very rarely ones for public displays of affection, but their anniversary has marked an exception. The royal couple, who are celebrating 21 years of marriage, shared a touching moment in an unearthed video posted on Thursday to mark their wedding anniversary.
Charles and Camilla paid a joint visit to the 2025 RHS Chelsea Flower Show on 19 May for the grand opening of the Highgrove Shop, which sells many luxury products inspired by the gardens at the royals’ private residence in Gloucestershire, and supports The King’s Foundation’s charitable work. While viewing the flowers and luxury homewares inside the newly-unveiled store last year, Camilla sweetly leaned over and laid a hand on her husband’s arm and over his back in a tender moment caught on camera.
Camilla stood by her husband’s side in a lovely patterned midi dress and wedge heels for their day out. Meanwhile, Charles looked dapper for the occasion in a suit as he walked around the store with his ornate walking stick in hand. The couple joined a small crowd gathered outside to watch curtains be drawn back for the official Highgrove Shop reveal.
The Highgrove Gardens social media account included Charles and Camilla’s rare affectionate moment in a video montage with Sly & The Family Stone’s 1974 track ‘This is Love’ playing in the background. “Happy 21st wedding anniversary to Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla,” the account captioned the clip to ring in the couple’s 21st year of marriage this week.
Charles has lived at Highgrove House, which is surrounded by gardens accessible to the public, since he bought the residence in 1980. It is now considered the main family home he has shared with Camilla since they tied the knot in 2005.
Charles and Camilla’s subtle PDA moments
As is the case with other members of the Royal Family, Charles and Camilla keep their PDA to a minimum while they are out and about. The general etiquette for the royals while representing the British Monarchy in public includes no hand-holding.
That being said, Their Majesties have shared sweet and subtle moments of public affection throughout their two decades of marriage, including a kiss at the polo in 2005, and Charles lending his hand to support his wife disembark a ship during their state visit to France in 2023.
In 2017, the royals greeted each other with a public kiss when they reunited in Singapore for the start of their Southeast Asia and India trip. The pair had been apart for several days ahead of the 11-day visit and clearly were overjoyed to see each other again.
21 years of marriage
Charles and Camilla tied the knot on 9 April 2005 after rekindling their on-off romance in 1986. The couple announced their engagement in February 2005, and just two months later, they said ‘I do’ in a civil ceremony followed by an official religious blessing.
Across their years of marriage, the couple have weathered the death of Charles’ mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, and Camilla was by her husband’s side amid news of his cancer diagnosis in February 2024.
In his first speech as monarch in September 2022, Charles said of his wife: “I count on the loving help of my darling wife, Camilla.”
