King Charles was in full grandad mode when he arrived at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, for the annual Easter church service.
A blink-and-you’ll miss it moment caught on camera showed the monarch playfully nudging his grandson, Prince Louis, as he entered the chapel ahead of the service.
Louis, seven, couldn’t contain his glee as his grandfather gently tapped him on the chest, displaying a coy smile in the sweet family moment, which you can watch in the video above.
King Charles was also pictured playfully patting Princess Charlotte, 10, as he made his way into St George’s Chapel.
Known for his cheeky behaviour and unpredictable antics at high-profile royal events, Louis displayed a more serious side for Sunday’s service, toeing the line as he joined his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, at the service.
Slimmed down monarchy
A slimmed-down monarchy was on display over the Easter weekend. King Charles and his wife Queen Camilla were joined by Prince William and Princess Kate, Princess Anne and her husband Sir Timothy Laurence, and Prince Edward and his son James, Earl of Wessex, for the all-important family occasion.
The elephant in the room was undoubtedly the absence of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, who quietly celebrated the day at home with their families.
HELLO! understands the sisters made “alternative” plans for Easter this year after a discussion with their uncle, King Charles.
They are very much still seen as part of the family and will be seen at family celebrations in the future, but have been lying low since the publication of the Epstein files in January.
Beatrice and Eugenie have increasingly withdrawn from public life following revelations about their parents’ friendship with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office on his 66th birthday in February after having been stripped of his remaining titles by the monarch in October 2025.
In January, the US Department of Justice released three million further documents in the Epstein files, with emails showing Sarah took her daughters to visit Epstein shortly after he was released from prison in 2009.
Further absences explained
Meanwhile, the absence of the Duchess of Edinburgh raised concerns amongst royal fans. However, HELLO! understands her mysterious no-show was merely due to being “under the weather” on the day.
Duchess Sophie was last seen publicly on 23 March, making an appearance at the Reasons For Hope Gala in London, celebrating Dr Jane Goodall’s legacy in support of the Jane Goodall Institute UK.
Her daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, also skipped the family service, no doubt distracted by her busy revision schedule.
The 22-year-old royal is currently studying English at the University of St Andrews and is working hard ahead of her graduation this summer.
