The King has been seen for the first time after new reports suggested that his son Prince Harry could start visiting the UK “every few months”.
Charles, 77, was welcomed to Ballindalloch in Speyside for the 150th & Beyond Grand Prix, which celebrates Aberdeen-Angus cattle.
It meant that the monarch took an unexpected break from his summer holiday in Scotland, during which he typically avoids the spotlight.
King Charles, who is the royal patron of the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society, appeared in bright spirits upon arrival on Friday, carrying a stick.
He spent time talking to breeders and enjoyed a tour on foot to meet the herd, which was established in 1861, according to local paper Press and Journal.
He also helped unveil the society’s 150th herd book at the event, which was attended by around 300 people.
King Charles’s summer holiday with Queen Camilla so far
The King was also spotted attending a church service at Crathie Kirk near Balmoral over the weekend with Queen Camilla.
Their Majesties are currently on their summer holiday and enjoy a break at the Castle every year away from the public eye.
Charles has still performed some low-key duties, including attending the Mey Highland Games and a visit to Dingwall.
Camilla, 79, meanwhile, will make a solo visit to York races this week for the first day of the Ebor Festival.
The King and Queen are expected to make a public appearance on 5 September at the annual Braemar Gathering.
Prince Harry to make ‘frequent visits’ to the UK
It comes after reports over the weekend suggested that Prince Harry is looking to return to the UK “every few months”.
The Duke of Sussex, 41, hopes to return to Britain “more and more” a source close to Harry told The Times.

Harry was last in the UK in July, which included a long-awaited reunion between his father, King Charles, and his two children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five.
He is next expected to visit in September for the annual Wellchild Awards, of which he has been the patron since 2007.
He will also visit Birmingham next year for the 2027 Invictus Games.
It has not been confirmed whether Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, or children will join him on his upcoming visits.
