King Charles announced he would be opening his Norfolk-based Sandringham Estate for the summer season as planned, despite Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest for misconduct in public office.
The 77-year-old monarch had previously revealed some of the restaurants and amenities on the 20,000-acre private land would be closed to the public over the Easter period; however, it appears that during the summer months, it will be business as usual.
Posting to the official Sandringham Estate Instagram account, it was confirmed that tickets for entry to the land were on sale and that access would be granted to ticketholders from 28 March.
Alongside an animated clip made to look like a watercolour drawing of the main house, the account manager added some classical music featuring strings that played as the video image moved.
A caption was also included in the post that read: “Experience Sandringham House & Gardens. From Saturday, 28th March, step inside the much-loved country retreat of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla and explore over 60 acres of garden and 21,000 acres of estate.
“Buy your tickets for the 2026 season through the link in our bio.” The account also left a question for followers in the comment section and asked them: “Who will be joining us at The Sandringham Estate for the 2026 season?”
Excited fans of the royals, and of the estate, left their feelings in the comment section and expressed sentiments like: “I can’t wait!”, and “Last year I visited the house, I thoroughly enjoyed it and was impressed by the staff; they were very friendly, and it was a very pleasant memory.”
An unexpected closure
Earlier this month, visitors were left disappointed after specific closures were announced that fell close to the Easter school holidays.
The private grounds owned by the King revealed that it would be shutting the Sandringham Restaurant & Terrace and facilities at the Visitor Centre, which included the restaurant, terrace and shop.
In a statement released, the estate said: “March Temporary Closure Notice: The Sandringham Restaurant & Terrace will be closed from Monday 16th to Wednesday 18th March inclusive.
“All facilities at the Visitor Centre (Restaurant, Terrace & Shop) will be closed on Tuesday 24th March. St Mary Magdalene Church will be closed on Thursday, 26th March. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
Andrew moves in
Sandringham has been under the spotlight in recent months after it was confirmed Andrew would be moving to Norfolk following his eviction from Royal Lodge in Windsor.
The 66-year-old former prince was stripped of his titles last October and asked to leave the Grade-II listed Georgian mansion he had shared with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, for over 20 years.
Following his exit from the south-eastern home, he took up temporary residency in the red-brick Wood Farm cottage, around two miles from the main Sandringham House, while waiting for renovations to finish on what would become his permanent address, Marsh Farm, in Wolferton.
It was suggested that Andrew would move into his new home in April, and huge moving vans were spotted entering the five-bedroom farmhouse, supposedly transporting his art collection from Royal Lodge, indicating he was getting ready to settle in soon.
