The King was heckled again about his brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, as he arrived for a public engagement in Lancashire on Monday morning.
Charles, 77, greeted crowds at Clitheroe train station and is later expected to meet local manufacturers and farmers on a series of visits in the Ribble Valley throughout the day.
Charles was meeting well-wishers after arriving by royal train when a man shouted: “How long have you known about Andrew?” The rest of the crowd booed after the question was asked, while a video showed members of the public shouting “shut up” and “kick him out”.
Clitheroe locals said that the heckler was pulled away by a member of the crowd before walking off. The rest of the reception was generally positive, with some wearing Union flag hats to greet the King, and one brought a Corgi puppy to meet him. The crowd cheered as Charles waved goodbye before getting into a car.
The visit comes amid mounting pressure to speak out following an official statement from the Prince and Princess of Wales regarding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor early on Monday morning. It comes less than a week after the King was heckled about his brother’s friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during a visit to Essex last Thursday.
William and Kate’s statement
In a statement ahead of Prince William’s first official visit to Saudi Arabia later today, a spokesman told travelling media: “I can confirm The Prince and Princess have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations. Their thoughts remain focused on the victims.”
The prince is en route to Saudi Arabia for the start of a three-day tour of the Middle East country, spending his first day with the Saudi ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. It is the first time the couple has spoken out since Andrew was stripped of his titles in October by the King. Last week, he relocated from Royal Lodge in Windsor and is now temporarily living in Wood Farm Cottage on the Sandringham Estate.
It follows a further three million documents concerning convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein being released by the US government, one of which included a photograph of the former Duke of York kneeling over a woman, whose identity was kept anonymous.
The latest allegation is that Andrew shared confidential reports of official visits to Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Singapore in his role as the UK’s trade envoy. He has always denied any wrongdoing.
