A celebrity relationship expert has revealed how she accidentally “spat in the King’s face” when she first met him during a reception at his Highgrove residence.

Anna Williamson, a TV personality who is known for Celebs Go Dating, was asked about her “most embarrassing famous encounter” during an appearance on Joe Marler Will See You Now this week.

Anna, 45, who is a long-time ambassador of the King’s Trust, said she wasn’t sure how to greet the King and ended up doing “a curtsy, a bow, and a handshake” all in one go, while eating a finger bowl of risotto.

The move ended in disaster, and Anna recalled on the podcast: “I fell forward with the risotto, spat the risotto in King Charles‘s face, curtsied but stumbled on the paving slab.

“I fell into him so he had to push me back up again! I stumbled mid-curtsy because I just committed to all of it and fell into him and had to be pulled off him.”

Luckily, everyone was “quite chilled” and the King even offered to help her back up again. “It was how I broke the ice with the King,” Anna joked.

The royals’ most embarrassing moments

Luckily, with so many public engagements, King Charles and the rest of the royal family are no strangers to things going wrong.

They’ve suffered many an awkward and embarrassing moment in front of crowds, and are experts at laughing things off.

In fact, the King was pooed on by a seagull back in May during a visit to Newcastle. He saw the bright side and laughed: “It’s well it didn’t land on my head!”

In 2015, he and Queen Camilla were given a right royal fright when an eagle at the Sandringham Flower Show attempted to fly away, leaving them caught completely off-guard!

Meanwhile, the Princess of Wales got her heels stuck in a metal grate during a February 2018 trip to Wickford, and Prince William fell asleep during the Anzac Day service shortly after Prince Louis was born.

What is the King’s Trust?

The monarch first founded his youth charity, The King’s Trust, in 1976, in an effort to help community initiatives for young people.

It was formerly known as The Prince’s Trust and used his navy severance pay to fund many community initiatives.

In January, research showed that the charity had contributed at least £11.4 billion to society through its programmes.

“When I began what is now The King’s Trust in 1976, I could not possibly have imagined the impact that it would have,” the King remarked in a moving video message.

He added: “I am so very pleased and proud that The Trust’s work continues to go from strength to strength, having in that time helped over 1.3 million young people grow their confidence, continue in education, secure sustainable jobs and over 92,000 young people in the UK alone, having been supported to start a business, thus enabling them all to build brighter futures.”
