Donna Mills is proving she’s just as fierce as ever, this time with a witty clapback aimed at critics of her appearance.
The Knots Landing icon, who famously played the scheming Abby Cunningham, had the perfect response after an online commenter told her she wore “too much makeup for your age.”
In a tongue-in-cheek video, Donna appeared effortlessly chic in a black leather jacket, her signature blonde hair styled in loose waves, as she delivered a perfectly timed comeback.
“I guess I didn’t get the memo,” she quipped, before transforming into a deliberately “aged-up” version of herself – complete with grey hair, glasses and a high-neck blouse.
“Did you want me to look like this?” she added, poking fun at outdated expectations around ageing. “I said what I said #style#aging#makeup#clapback#armchairwarrior,” she captioned the post.
Fans were quick to support Donna, with one commenting: “You are ageless! They wish they were you.” Another wrote: “They are jealous Donna. You always look very classy,” while a third posted: You look amazing unhappy people say unhappy things keep shining @thedonnamills.
Now 85, the actress shows no signs of slowing down. She recently marked her birthday with a reflective Instagram post, sharing a glowing photo alongside a heartfelt message about growth and gratitude.
“Looking back… So many little moments that shaped me. Unexpected joys. Beautiful surprises. Lessons I didn’t know I needed. I’m still here. I’m still going. And I’m excited for everything ahead. Feeling grateful today,” she wrote. “#AnotherYearAroundTheSun#StillGrowing#grateful.”
Donna first rose to fame in Clint Eastwood’s 1971 film Play Misty for Me, before becoming a household name on Knots Landing, the hit Dallas spin-off that ran from 1979 to 1993. She left the series in 1989 but continued to enjoy a successful career in television movies, cementing her status as a screen icon.
Late last year, Donna spoke out candidly in an interview about a scary experience she had with a male stalker who had escaped prison, causing police to warn her to leave town.
The star was in conversation with Steve Kmetko for his podcast Still Here Hollywood where she talked about her career and personal life. When asked “What did fame not prepare you for”, she replied: “I’ve had a couple of stalkers… that’s kind of scary.”
When asked how she had handled that, she replied: “Well one of them was a guy who had escaped from prison. And the detective called me up and said ‘I’d leave town if I were you.’ Because he was obsessed with me, and most people when they escape prison they try to run away, but he said ‘he’s gonna come for you.'”
Donna left town on police advice. The man had been released from prison in order to go to trial and he escaped from the courthouse. In the end, he was found underneath a house in Silverlake and was shot dead by police.
Throughout the podcast, Donna answered many other candid questions. When asked why she had never married, the star said she valued her independence too much to tie the knot. “I was always so independent, I’m still very independent,” she said. “I just didn’t want to ever be subject to anybody else’s… you know, whatever you have to do when you get married.”
