Kristi is a politician currently serving as the eighth United States secretary of Homeland Security under Donald Trump. She assumed the role on January 25, 2025, following Senate confirmation by a 59–34 vote.
Before her appointment to the DHS, Kristi served as the 33rd governor of South Dakota from 2019 to 2025, becoming the state’s first female governor.
