Lauren Sánchez is giving rare insight into one of the most emotional moments from her wedding to Jeff Bezos.
The former journalist married the Amazon founder with a ceremony in Venice, Italy on June 27, 2025, during which all three of her children got to give a speech.
The philanthropist is a mom to son Nikko González, shared with Tony González, as well as son Evan Whitesell, 19 and daughter Ella Whitesell, 18, shared with ex-husband Patrick Whitesell.
During an appearance on the Today Show, Lauren, who has spoken candidly about growing up with undiagnosed dyslexia and wrote a children’s book inspired by it, The Fly Who Flew to Space, opened up about one of her sons’ own battle with the learning disability, and how it tied back to the “biggest moment” of her wedding.
Sharing how all kids had a moment to speak in honor of their mom and Jeff, she said: “One of my kids, who is dyslexic and he lets me talk about it, went up there and talked about a moment that was extremely important to him. And I had no idea what he was going to say.”
She then recalled a moment when her son was in the fourth grade and “not writing well,” but he wrote the sentence: “I can do this.”
“It was his first sentence, and that’s really late to be writing your first sentence, as any parent with a kid with dyslexia knows,” she revealed.
The doting mom, getting emotional, further shared how she blew up the sentence into a sign she put in their kitchen, and during her wedding, her son emphasized how “special” to him the gesture was.
“That was literally the most meaningful and impactful moment at my wedding,” she added, before quipping: “Besides getting married to Jeff! The second most.”
“Being able to see our kids talk about what is important to them was really powerful,” Lauren emphasized.
In getting married to Jeff, Lauren also became a stepmother to her husband’s four kids with ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, to whom he was married from 1993 to 2019.
The former couple welcomed three sons and one daughter together, though only their oldest son’s name, Preston, is publicly known, and that he was born in 2000; they’ve kept the names and birthdays of their remaining three children private, and it is only public knowledge that their daughter was adopted from China.
