There’s no denying that corsets are notoriously uncomfortable. With their rigid structure, unforgiving boning, and cinched silhouettes, they aren’t for the faint of heart – they’re for those willing to put fashion first. Luckily, Margot Robbie is one of those individuals.
In the span of just 24 hours, she stepped out in not one but two corseted gowns, turning the promotion of her new film, Wuthering Heights, into the ultimate sartorial marathon.
For the Sydney premiere on February 12, Margot wore a hauntingly romantic gown from Ashi Studio Couture. The custom gossamer creation drew inspiration from 18th-century period dress, featuring distressed fabric and a hand-painted bodice. Rendered in a soft ecru hue, the corseted design showcased delicate shading and exposed boning before cascading into layers of weathered tulle. A sweeping skirt, textured with subtle fraying, completed the look – evoking a windswept finish. It was pure Catherine Earnshaw.
The ensemble was paired with a Lorraine Schwartz choker necklace and custom Manolo Blahnik pumps. Margot’s blonde locks were styled into soft waves while her makeup was left natural and radiant, courtesy of rosy cheeks, putted eyes, and a glossy lip.
Stylist Andrew Mukamal wasn’t finished with the corseted theme. He dressed the star in yet another custom creation by Ashi Studio, doubling down on the structured silhouette while Down Under.
The second look was a sheer mini dress adorned with intricate lace embroidery in a similar ecru hue. The structured garment featured exposed boning and rigid cups at the bodice, while its sculptural silhouette flared dramatically at the hips. It was styled with a diamond choker by Jessica McCormack and open-toe heels from Manolo Blahnik.
Andrew has been working overtime, draping the star in a steady stream of romantic yet sultry ensembles throughout the past month. For the film’s London premiere, Margot wore custom Dilara Findikoglu. The nude corseted gown offered a fiercest take on the naked dress trend, featuring exposed bone structure, green feather–trimmed detailing, and ornate blonde braid stitching.
The 35-year-old actress has been leaning into a lineup of corseted looks. Snakeskin-print leather set the tone at the global junket photocall, with the star slipping into an off-the-runway Dilara Findikoglu FW25 look that channelled grungy chic.
Meanwhile, for the world premiere, the actress channeled romance with a strapless Schiaparelli number. The black and red ombre gown featured a lace bodice with a large, voluminous skirt accented by a bow-like design. The look was styled with the exact Cartier Taj Majal necklace Elizabeth Taylor was gifted on her 40th birthday from Richard Burton.
