Mariah Carey’s daughter, Monroe Cannon, sparked fear in the songstress’ fans on Monday when she shared a throwback photo with her mother alongside a mysterious caption.
The 15-year-old posted a snap of the pair spending time together in a bathhouse, with Mariah lying on the wooden deck dressed in a black outfit with her legs supporting Monroe as she leaned back against her, arms splayed out. The pair both wore smiles on their faces during the silly moment, showcasing their strong bond.
Monroe’s strange message
While the photo captured a sweet moment between the mother-daughter duo, it was Monroe’s caption that sent fear into the hearts of Mariah’s fans. The teen simply captioned the post with four emojis: a candle, two pink hearts, a yoga pose and an angel wing.
Many interpreted this to mean that something was amiss with Mariah, as the angel wings in particular are often used in social media posts indicating that someone has passed away.

Mariah has been taking a break from public life in recent months, with her last public appearance being at the Gucci Cruise in May 2026. She has been posting several throwback photos on her social media feed in recent weeks, as well as a clip of her singing inside her home in late July.
Fans expressed their concern in the comment section of this video too, with one writing: “What is going on with Mariah?” and another adding: “I LOVE some MiMi, but blink twice if you’re okay.”
Mariah’s health struggles
Mariah has been open about her health struggles in the past, including her battle with bipolar disorder, a mental health condition that causes extreme shifts in mood and energy levels.
The star was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2001, and shared that she struggled for several years before getting help. “Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me,” she told People in 2018.
“It was too heavy a burden to carry, and I simply couldn’t do that anymore. I sought and received treatment, I put positive people around me, and I got back to doing what I love – writing songs and making music.”

The two people who keep Mariah grounded through it all are her twins, Moroccan and Monroe, whom she welcomed with her ex-husband, Nick Cannon, in 2011.
