The arrest took place late Sunday night on charges of assault, threatening someone with a knife, and violating a restraining order. Borg, who is scheduled to stand trial this Tuesday on a total of 38 charges, could be held in custody for up to four weeks due to the risk of reoffending.

The Oslo District Court is expected to rule on his potential imprisonment by Monday afternoon.

Regarding the upcoming trial, Borg denies the most serious allegations against him. These include domestic violence and four counts of sexual assault involving women who, according to prosecutors, were unable to resist because they were unconscious.

He also faces additional charges related to drug transportation. The trial, set to begin Tuesday, is expected to last seven weeks and could result in up to 10 years in prison if Borg is convicted.

This marks the fourth time Marius Borg has been arrested since August 4, 2024, when he was involved in a violent incident with his former girlfriend. He was detained again on November 18, 2025, for assault, and on January 19, he was charged with new offenses, including aggravated drug possession, two violations of a restraining order, and three traffic law violations, charges he’s admitted to.

Marius Borg has been under the media spotlight for the past couple of years, ever since the assault allegations were made against him. His new arrest comes amid the renewed public scrutiny of his mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, and her connection to Jeffrey Epstein, with her name coming up in a new batch of documents that were released.

According to the files, the princess stayed on Epstein’s private island for four days in January 2013 and exchanged emails with him over several years in a tone that has been described as warm, friendly, and familiar.

The emails exchanged show that Mette-Marit once asked Epstein whether it would be “inappropriate” for her, as a mother, to suggest that her then-15-year-old son use a wallpaper image featuring nude women.

“I showed poor judgment and regret having any contact with Epstein at all,” said Mette-Marit in a public statement, as reported by Politico. “Jeffrey Epstein is solely responsible for his actions. I must take responsibility for not having investigated Epstein’s background more thoroughly, and for not realizing sooner what kind of person he was. I deeply regret this, and it is a responsibility I must bear,”

The Scandinavian public continues to wonder and question if the Crown Princess will be able to assume the role of Queen in the future.
