UConn Huskies star Braylon Mullins‘ parents, Katie and Josh Mullins have tremendously supported him over the years.
The promising athlete joined the popular team in June 2025, and his parents know more than a thing or two about basketball.
They not only love the game, but they play a significant role behind-the-scenes of their son’s basketball career.
Braylon began playing the sport at four years old. During high school, Josh trained his son and coached alongside the high school’s team as an assistant coach at Greenfield-Central High School.
Family ties
His role was a full-circle moment, as he too was on the same high school team during the late 1990s. After graduation, Josh played on IUPUI’s NCAA basketball team for two years.
Braylon’s younger brothers Clay and Cole, who are twins, also played on the high school’s junior varsity team alongside Braylon.
During Braylon’s time there, Josh greatly pushed his son, and at times, fellow coach and family friend Michael Fox stepped in as a mediator.
He revealed: “Sometimes, I’d have to be the one to say, ‘Hey Josh, he’s 14 years old; let him figure this out,'” per Babcock Hoops.
Braylon ended up being awarded the Indiana Mr. Basketball honors. Once Braylon graduated high school, Josh left his coaching position to give his full attention to his son’s budding collegiate career at UConn.
Katie expressed to CT Insider: “The culture around [the college] reminds me of what he’s [had] in high school.”
Braylon shared just how much his father’s consistent support means to him.
He revealed: “My dad taught me to be persistent and just trying to make sure you fight through all the hard. I think he was the one who just pushed me to the max. He just made life easier in college for me,” per CBS Sports.
Not only is the family’s high school a place where the brothers and father grew passionate about basketball, but it’s also to thank for its romantic ties. Believe it or not, Josh and Katie began dating there during their teen years.
Katie’s Instagram bio lovingly reads: “Married to my high school sweetheart [and] mother of three boys who love to play basketball #basketballmom #lovemyfam.”
The doting mother-of-three often posts heartwarming throwback pictures of her boys, and she cheers them all on during the games.
