The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been in Jordan this week with the World Health Organization. Enduring a full schedule, they met workers who have been running refugee camps, as well as people affected by ongoing conflicts.
During this visit, we have been observing Meghan’s 48-hour wardrobe, which featured durable yet stylish items. On Thursday, the mother-of-two gave us all a masterclass on mixing high-street items with designer pieces, sporting simple black tailored trousers, which she paired with a jacket by Zara. The grey item from the ZW Collection was designed in sumptuous wool and featured white decorative contrast stitching. It is priced at £109 and is selling rapidly. The former Suits actress elevated the look with a pair of elegant block-heel Chanel pumps.
Mixed dressing
Mixing fashion items was championed by the fictional character Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City in the late 90s. Played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Carrie would famously don inexpensive vintage dresses with exclusive designer bags and shoes worth thousands.
Today, the intentional mixing of high-street items with designer looks anchors an ensemble, elevating it and making it personal, resulting in an individual aesthetic.
Dress like a Duchess
Meghan is famously known for her love of tonal, neutral dressing. She has always opted for warm colour palettes, and her laid-back yet timeless California-cool pieces always stand the test of time.
The contrasting stitching on her Zara jacket is a modern yet feminine choice. This is a major micro-trend for spring, and there’s an array of fabulous pieces available right now that mirror Meghan’s ensemble. Mint Velvet’s crochet jacket in terracotta is reminiscent of the Duchess’s style, and Maje, a royal family favourite, has a similar cream version that would look wonderful paired with jeans.
Meghan Markle’s Chanel collection
This isn’t the first time the 44-year-old has stepped out in Chanel. In 2023, Meghan headed to the Invictus Games in Germany. Looking suitably glamorous, she donned a pair of sleek white shorts, which she belted at the waist.
Elevating the separates, she added a nautical-trimmed cardigan and her two-tone Chanel flats, which are also a firm favourite of royal relatives Princess Beatrice and Queen Camilla.
In 2017, Meghan was pictured in Toronto, carrying Chanel’s ‘Gabrielle Hobo’ bag. Made from aged calfskin, the large leather style is crafted from smooth calfskin and features silver and gold-toned metal detail.
