Meghan Markle might not have officially announced her return to acting, but it sounds like Hollywood is already fighting to book her on their next project.
According to a senior L.A. casting agent who spoke to Page Six, studios and producers have been “scrambling” to get in front of the Duchess of Sussex after renewed buzz about a potential comeback, with offers spanning everything from rom-coms to soaps and even horror.
“Meghan has been the hottest talking point in Hollywood circles in the last couple of weeks,” the insider said, adding that the level of interest is unlike anything they’ve seen in decades.
The frenzy was reportedly sparked after her former Suits co-star Eric Roberts publicly claimed she was planning to return. “She will come back. She’s going to be fantastic and blow everybody’s mind,” he said, while his wife, casting director Eliza Roberts, added, “Meghan is a star… she needs to be acting.”
And insiders say Hollywood agrees. “She’s a unicorn,” the casting agent explained, noting that attaching Markle to any project would bring “stratospheric” attention, and more importantly, serious money with investments.
Of course, the timing of all this isn’t random. Markle famously stepped away from acting in 2017 after getting engaged to Prince Harry, closing the chapter on her role as Rachel Zane in Suits just as her real-life story shifted into something far bigger, and far more scrutinized.
Since then, her Hollywood presence has been more behind-the-scenes, most notably through her and Harry’s headline-making Netflix deal under Archewell Productions.
But that partnership – once positioned as a glossy new era – has recently shown cracks. Behind the scenes, there have been murmurs of tension between the Sussexes and Netflix, with insiders describing growing fatigue over repeated royal narratives and a pivot toward Markle’s lifestyle brand, As Ever.
One source bluntly summed up the internal mood as: “We’re done.” Still, both sides have pushed back publicly, with Markle’s attorney insisting she remains in regular contact with co-CEO Ted Sarandos, calling rumors of friction “blatantly false.”
Ratings haven’t exactly quieted the noise either. While her lifestyle series With Love, Meghan reportedly performed in line with similar shows, it hasn’t delivered the kind of breakout success that defined the couple’s early streaming era. Meanwhile, Netflix’s recent step back from its consumer venture only added fuel to the speculation that the deal – and direction – may be shifting.
Which is why, to some insiders, a return to acting feels less like a maybe and more like a reset. “It is Meghan back to her first career,” the casting agent said, pointing out that her acting résumé was always “solid” – and that audiences may be more than ready to see her on screen again, rather than in headlines about royal drama.
There are already early signs of that pivot. Markle quietly filmed a cameo in the upcoming Amazon MGM film Close Personal Friends, alongside a stacked cast including Brie Larson and Lily Collins. The move feels less like a one-off and more like a toe dip back into the industry.
Still, one big question lingers – who’s actually steering this next chapter? “There’s a huge question mark in town around who represents her interests today,” the agent noted, with studios, writers, and producers all reportedly trying to reconnect through her old network just to get in the room.
