Melania Trump adviser has strong words about Donald Trump and Natalie Harp speculation

Donald Trump’s close working relationship with White House aide Natalie Harp has generated considerable attention in Washington, but one of first lady Melania Trump’s senior advisers is pushing back against the speculation surrounding the pair.

Mark Beckman, a senior adviser to the first lady, addressed the chatter during an interview with conservative host Stella Escobedo this week, defending Harp and criticizing the media attention surrounding her relationship with the president.

“They’re all attacking this hardworking, very talented, very intelligent person in Natalie Harp,” Beckman said, according to HuffPost.

When Escobedo remarked that there was “nothing wrong with their relationship,” Beckman agreed and described the speculation as “absolutely ridiculous.”

“The media doesn’t know about the first family’s private life. Period,” Beckman added, arguing that greater attention should instead be given to Melania’s work as first lady.

Who is Natalie Harp?

Harp, 35, serves as a special assistant and executive assistant to the president and has become one of the most visible members of Trump’s inner circle.

She is frequently photographed near the president at the White House and during his travels. During Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, colleagues reportedly nicknamed her the “human printer” because she traveled with a portable printer and supplied him with hard copies of articles and other information.

The Wall Street Journal reported in August that Harp has become an important gatekeeper and sounding board for the president. She reportedly assists with his social media posts and attends meetings in the Oval Office, Situation Room and aboard Air Force One.

Her proximity to Trump has attracted increased public attention in recent months. The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump views Harp almost as part of his family, citing people familiar with their relationship.

Harp first came to Trump’s attention after publicly crediting his administration’s Right to Try law with helping her while she battled cancer. She later spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention and eventually joined Trump’s team.

A $45,000 holiday gift:

Beckman’s comments come just as Harp has returned to the headlines following the release of White House financial disclosures.

According to the Associated Press and The Washington Post, Trump personally gave Harp a $45,000 holiday cash gift. Two other White House aides, Margo Martin and Chamberlain Harris, also reported receiving $45,000 each, while Walt Nauta reported a $20,000 gift.

Harp, Martin and Harris each earn an annual White House salary of $150,000, making the individual gifts equivalent to nearly one-third of their yearly government salaries.

A White House official told the Associated Press that Trump has a history of giving gifts to people in his professional circle and said the payments were unrelated to the recipients’ official government duties.

The disclosures have nevertheless brought renewed attention to Harp, whose unusually visible position alongside the president has already made her a subject of political and media scrutiny.

Beckman, however, made the first lady’s camp’s position clear, arguing that speculation about the president’s personal relationships should not overshadow the administration’s work.

“They harp on these issues of gossip rather than going ahead and covering the substantial achievements of this first lady and frankly, the president also,” he said.
