Sky has unveiled a first look at its upcoming adventure film, Flavia, starring Martin Freeman (Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials), Annette Badland (Midsomer Murders), Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones) and Toby Jones (Detectorists).
Based on Alan Bradley’s bestselling Flavia de Luce mysteries, the mystery stars Molly Belle Wright in the title role as an eleven-year-old amateur sleuth.
Viewers don’t have to wait long for the film to arrive on screens, as Flavia comes to Sky Cinema and streaming service NOW on 4 April.
Fans of detective mystery films looking for a light-hearted and fun watch should get excited about this. Not only is the screenplay penned by Susan Coyne, whose TV credits include Daisy Jones & The Six and Anne of Green Gables, but it’s co-produced by The Mazur Kaplan Company, which is behind the acclaimed period drama starring Lily James, The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society. Plus, the cast list is exceptional.

What is Flavia about?
Set in 1951, the mystery takes place in a picturesque British village at the crumbling manor house of the de Luce family, where a dead body lies in the cucumber patch. Flavia de Luce, an 11-year-old chemist with a passion for poisons, stumbles upon the body in the middle of the night and discovers her true calling: sleuth
The synopsis continues: “Determined to uncover how the dead body got there, Flavia launches into the investigation with fearless curiosity. But when her father, Havilland (Freeman), unexpectedly confesses to the crime, Flavia must deploy every trick in the detective’s manual to clear his name. “Outwitting the local constabulary is only the beginning. The real murderer is still at large… and has their eye on her.
