Miley Cyrus got candid about the final conversation she had with her late godmother, Dolly Parton, before the country music icon passed away on August 25 at age 80.

The pop superstar went into depth about her close bond with Dolly, who had consistently supported Miley throughout her career and even guest-starred on her show, Hannah Montana, back in the ’00s.

Miley revealed that her final conversation with Dolly was about music

“The time that we talked, which was the last time we would talk, it was actually me telling her about this record because even though we are so different, that’s what made us so perfect for each other is that she knew this, and I know this,” the 33-year-old told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe on Thursday.

“Dolly has been the first person that when I get a vinyl printed, that’s the first person I send it to since I’ve been making vinyls.”

The only problem is that these women - Mamaw and Aunt Dolly - have been feuding for years and can't stand each other. Miley added that she often went to Dolly for advice on everything from her love life to her career.

“She was always right. It’s like how your mom’s always right, and when you’re a kid, you’re like, ‘What does she know?’ And then as you get older, you’re like, ‘Everything. How? Where did this come from? You’re just a normal person. Why do you know everything?’ Dolly was just always right about stuff.”

Steadfast support

As well as offering emotional support, Dolly also helped Miley embrace her onstage persona and learn to separate it from her true self.

“She is known for the faux, the fake, the hair, the makeup, the show of it. But there’s a part of her that’s what I think everyone gravitates towards, [which] is how real she is and how authentic she is,” the blonde beauty explained.

“And there was a time in my life, I mean, we hit on it with Hannah [Montana], so much of my life’s about persona. I think a way that I could look at that as you can have a persona and still be who you are is because I had Dolly.”

Miley then reminisced on the emotional moment she sang with Dolly during the NBC special Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party three years prior. “I cried singing ‘I Will Always Love You’ with her,” she recalled.

“But I think she knew at that time that the reason I was crying is the reason that I cry now, ’cause I know…so many of my really stabilizing peers that I have in my life…they aren’t always going to be here for me to call them and say, ‘What do I do now?’, which I always did with Dolly.”

Her fairy godmother

Dolly was close friends with Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, whom she toured with in 1992. When he asked her to be Miley’s godmother, she readily accepted, and they remained close for the remainder of Dolly’s life.

The “Jolene” singer passed away in August after a brief battle with cancer, triggering an outpouring of love from across the world. Miley shared insight into her grief on social media, writing: “The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share…I have an angel by my side. I always have.”

“I will always love her and want to make her proud,” she added.
